Supported by HEF and our generous donor community, these grants are designed to invest in creative ideas that strengthen classrooms and schools across our community. HEF provides dedicated funding to fuel innovative classroom projects that go beyond typical school budgets, sparking excitement and engagement among students.

Hillsborough County Public Schools educators can apply for project funding ranging from $100 to $2,500, and principals can apply up to $5,000 for school-wide initiatives. HEF accepts applications from educators, administrators, media specialists, and guidance counselors.

What is HEF’s review process? HEF’s Review Committee meets monthly to review applications. Once selections are made, teachers are notified by email and award letters are sent to teachers, principals and bookkeepers.

Can I apply for field trips? Yes, curriculum-based field trip proposals are welcomed. Field trips requiring travel outside of Hillsborough County are ineligible unless students have a direct role in the event—such as performing, competing, or presenting .

Student participation in conferences may be considered if it involves active engagement rather than observation. What types of things are the Review Committee looking for in applications? Anticipated outcomes support the goals Project and items are curriculum-based Number of students impacted Measurable outcomes are defined, where possible Enrichment experience for students What types of items will HEF not fund?

Online software subscriptions (example: IXL) Salaries or compensation for staff Furniture (examples: desks, bookcases, chairs) Technology such as tablets, printers, computers, iPads, etc. Can I apply for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) projects? Yes.

Due to the volume of requests, PBIS and attendance-focused initiatives HEF utilizes a tiered funding structure based on the number of students attending the school (range $500 to $1,500) and requests must be: School-wide from Title I schools to ensure the highest impact Submitted no later than October 31st How are funds sent to me? 1) A check written to your school.

Grant recipients need to work with their bookkeeper for purchases and expense reporting according to the Grant Fund Financial Policy . 2) Funds can be added to the grant recipient’s ClassWallet account for purchasing directly through their vendors and/or submitting receipts for reimbursement. What if HEF has the supplies I need?

Sometimes HEF has access to requested items and may contact you to make arrangements to pick them up. Depending on your location, we may be able to make delivery arrangements. Will I have to write a final report?

Yes. To provide donors with information about the impact of their dollars, grant recipients must complete a brief outcomes report, submit a thank you letter along with notes from students, and submit pictures at the end of the school year. This is a vital part of donor relations that helps us secure funding.

Does my principal have to approve my request? No, approval isn’t required to apply. However, your completed application will be emailed to your principal after you submit.

If your grant is funded and you choose to receive a check, your principal will need to sign the Grant Funds Financial Policy . We recommend giving your administration a heads-up so they’re aware of your plans. Do I have to notify the District Grants Office?

Yes, you must notify the HCPS Grants & Research Operations (GRO) office of your intent to apply for funding by completing a Grant Application Notification form . It may also be accessed from the HCPS Staff Hub webpage: use the dropdown menu and select “Grant Application Notification form. ” This form must be filled out at least two weeks prior to submitting your grant and must be completed for each opportunity you pursue.
