Clean Green Schools Initiative Funding for New York Public School Modernization Projects The Clean Green Schools Initiative offers competitive funding for New York pre-kindergarten to grade 12 (P-12) public schools to efficiently modernize their buildings, reduce energy costs and harmful greenhouse gas emissions, and create healthier, more resilient learning environments.

Eligible projects include comprehensive retrofits, electrification readiness projects, and conversion of central heating and cooling plants to heat pumps. Save on energy. Reduce your district’s energy use long-term through modern, efficient equipment.

System Benefits Charge (SBC)/NYSERDA Clean Energy Fund NYSERDA is primarily funded by state ratepayers through the System Benefits Charge (SBC) / NYSERDA Clean Energy Fund on their electric utility bill.

These funds support energy-efficiency programs, research and development initiatives, low-income energy programs, and environmental disclosure activities.

Customers of the following utilities pay into the SBC/ NYSERDA Clean Energy Fund: Central Hudson (Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation) Con Edison (Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc.) National Grid (Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation) NYSEG (New York State Electric and Gas Corporation) Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc. RG&E (Rochester Gas and Electric Corporation) To determine if you are paying into the electric SBC or NYSERDA Clean Energy Fund look at a recent electric bill from your utility company to see if “SBC” or "NYSERDA Clean Energy Fund" is listed as a charge.
