Clean Energy - Barr Foundation Communities are powered by clean, efficient, and modern energy systems that serve everyone. The energy sector is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions in the Northeast. Our current energy system is aging, worsening climate hazards, and harming communities.

Frontline communities, in particular, host a large share of the region’s fossil energy infrastructure despite not being the largest energy users. To meet this challenge, we focus on accelerating the scale-up of renewables, electrification, and energy efficiency across the Northeast and reducing the region‘s reliance on fossil fuels. By doing so, we will create an energy system capable of meeting the demands of the 21st century.

We support ambitious efforts that accelerate the adoption of clean energy solutions at the local and regional level, ensuring the transition to renewable energy both reduces greenhouse gas emissions and improves the health and well-being of communities across the region.

Foster cross-sector coalitions Build a diverse constituency of clean energy supporters – including environmental justice, conservation, industry, municipal, and climate – to inform regulations. Equip clean energy advocates with the resources they need to champion equitable local, state, and regional clean energy policies and programs.

Elevate storytelling for action Raise awareness of the urgency, opportunities, and benefits of equitable clean energy through communications and narrative work. Support research, analysis, and demonstration projects that can inform policy decisions and drive effective action.
