Application Due: November 2, 2026 (requires Cayuse) Amount: $120,000 (cannot fund PI salary) This award supports quantitative pathology research to optimize and validate HER2 IHC testing in solid tumors beyond breast and gastric cancer.
Priority areas are colorectal cancer, head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, and non-small cell lung cancer. Projects should develop tumor-specific scoring criteria, assess HER2 heterogeneity, and correlate IHC results with ISH, FISH, or NGS to improve selection for anti-HER2 ADC therapies and inform future CAP guidelines. Applicants must be CAP members and early-career pathologists with 1–5 years in practice.
Preferred candidates have at least three years of relevant surgical-pathology experience, expertise in HER2 IHC and molecular testing, and an Assistant or Associate Professor appointment. Projects must include mentorship and skills development and are encouraged to involve trainees. Proposals will be evaluated for significance, innovation, methodological and statistical rigor, and clinical relevance.
Only one proposal is permitted per institution, with support from the Pathology Department chair.
