3. Colorado Creative Aging # Colorado Creative Aging Colorado Creative Industries (CCI) is proud to announce significant new investments in the future of creative aging across the state. These initiatives include the Colorado Creative Aging Collaborative advisory group, pilot residencies in 2026, and the Creative Aging Project Grant in 2026-2028.
This work is made possible by the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies in partnership with E. A. Michelson Philanthropy through their Creative Aging, Creative Futures grant.
These initiatives were created to address a critical gap in our state's aging infrastructure. As Colorado’s population rapidly ages—with the number of residents aged 60 and over expected to reach 1. 5 million by 2030—the need for inclusive, accessible programming has never been higher.
Yet, a 2022 survey from the Colorado Association of Area Agencies on Aging found that only 17% of older adults feel their communities offer excellent opportunities for education, culture, and the arts. [](https://oedit. colorado.
gov/programs-and-funding/colorado-creative-aging) ## Colorado Creative Aging Project Grant 2026-2028 > _**Creative Aging Project Grant Applications open in fall 2026**_ Colorado Creative Industries will launch the Colorado Creative Aging Project Grant in fall 2026 to fund sequential art classes for older adults taught by professional teaching artists.
As defined by Lifetime Arts, creative aging uses artistic engagement to enhance well-being, physical and cognitive abilities and overall quality of life as people age. To qualify, proposed art class series must teach skills sequentially, building upon what is learned from one class to the next. The classes should serve a consistent group of participants throughout the series to foster social connection.
Each series must end with a culminating event celebrating participant artwork, which should ideally be open to family and friends. Applicants may request up to $10,000. Host sites and teaching artists are required to complete creative aging training, which is provided free of charge in addition to the financial award.
Strong applicants will have surveyed local older adults to assess community needs before selecting an art medium or instructor. Applicants without existing survey data must outline their assessment plans, using provided Lifetime Arts templates if needed. Priority will also be given to local teaching artists based in the program's community.

gov/programs-and-funding/colorado-creative-aging)The Colorado Creative Aging Collaborative As part of supporting a stronger creative aging ecosystem, Colorado Creative Industries created the Colorado Creative Aging Collaborative, an advisory group which includes key representatives from the aging sector, such as Think 360 Arts for Learning, the Colorado Department of Human Services, Area Agencies on Aging, Next50 Foundation, AARP Colorado, library districts and more.
The primary work of this advisory group is to establish a sustainable foundation for creative aging programs in Colorado, ensuring that arts engagement is integrated into all aging policies and practices.
The Creative Aging Collaborative is also part of a larger regional initiative, Lifetime Arts' Creative Aging in the West Project, that works with other western states to integrate creative aging into public health strategies and aging services. The Colorado Creative Aging Collaborative goals and pilot program are supported through a partnership between Lifetime Arts, Think 360 Arts for Learning and Colorado Creative Industries.
[](https://oedit. colorado. gov/programs-and-funding/colorado-creative-aging) ### Piloting Creative Aging Residencies in 2026 To guide the development of the Colorado Creative Aging Project Grant and broaden awareness of creative aging across the state, the Creative Aging Collaborative identified key communities for five pilot residency programs.
More than individual arts programs, these pilot residencies will help state leaders understand how creative aging supports older adults in communities of all sizes while identifying ways to reduce barriers to participation. Think 360 Arts will coordinate the pilot residencies, with Lifetime Arts providing training and coaching for host sites.
Data, participant feedback and lessons learned from the pilots will inform future policy development, statewide partnerships and grant opportunities to expand arts learning for older adults throughout Colorado.
