Accessibility Grants | Community Foundation of Huntington County We’re pleased to share that we have not one, but two funds dedicated to making Huntington County more accessible to everyone! This is thanks to the contributions of the AWS Foundation and Pathfinder, two organizations with a long history of fostering inclusivity for individuals with disabilities.
There is only one grant application for both funds and the Accessibility Committee – a group of 6 individuals representing Huntington County, AWS, Pathfinder, and the Community Foundation- will make the award decisions. Individuals, families, and businesses in Huntington County are welcome to apply for these grants.
The Community Accessibility awards funding to those who apply and demonstrate a clear plan to overcome physical barriers in buildings and infrastructure that prevent people with disabilities from fully accessing the use and benefits afforded to all.
The AWS Foundation Accessible Communities Fund awards funding to those who apply and demonstrate their project fits within these guiding principles: Presented with a focus on encouraging potential rather than identification of limitations. Social settings that include family and friends are preferred. Age-related peer groups and the potential for new friends are ideal.
ADA standards are the law and the minimum. Exceeding through the principles of Universal Design is desirable. Enhance and support education and employment potential will contribute to greater independence for the individual.
