Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) is sponsored by City of Huntsville. The City of Huntsville administers this federally funded program to support activities that build stronger and more resilient communities.

Community Development Block Grant - City of Huntsville Community Development Block Grant Huntsville’s Community Development department administers the Community Development Block Grant program, known as CDBG. This federally funded program supports activities to build stronger and more resilient communities.

Eligible activities for grant recipients include: INFRASTRUCTURE: Construction of sewer, drainage, streets and sidewalks in qualifying neighborhoods ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: Provide economic and workforce development for low to moderate-income individuals. PUBLIC FACILITIES: Improve and develop public facilities, parks, and community resource centers to enhance neighborhood stabilization and support public services.

HOUSING REHABILITATION: Rehabbing owner-occupied homes improves living conditions through exterior modifications. Homeowners must be low- to moderate-income and/or certified disabled. PUBLIC SERVICES: CDBG may provide funding for social services activities including, but not limited to, childcare, health care, job training, recreation programs, education programs and many others.

In addition, the program can cover the cost of operating and maintaining the portion of a facility where the public service is located. Must own the home. Rental or leased property is not eligible.

Must be 62 years of age or older and/or certified disabled. Must reside at the property of the requested assistance. Total gross household income from all sources cannot exceed 80% of the area median income, adjusted for family size as currently determined by HUD.

Individual and volunteer groups from Huntsville’s robust community of corporations and organizations help create a safe and healthy living environment for seniors and the disabled.

Volunteers are needed to assist with critical home repairs, including yard cleanup, exterior painting, siding, roofing and securing doors and windows. For more information on how to volunteer, contact comdev@huntsvilleal. gov .
