Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for Public Facilities Projects is sponsored by Mississippi Development Authority (MDA). This program provides municipalities and counties with funding for public infrastructure needs. CDBG requires that at least 51% of the persons benefited must be persons of low and moderate income as determined by the U.

The three national objectives of the program are: (1) to benefit low and moderate income persons, (2) to aid in the prevention of slums and blight, and (3) to eliminate conditions that pose a serious and immediate threat to the health and welfare of a community. CDBG Public Facilities Program The program is composed of the Regular and Small Municipalities Public Facilities.

The Regular and Small Municipalities Program The program provides grant funds to eligible local governments for activities such as water, wastewater, solid waste, flood control, bridges/roads, solid waste improvements, certain public buildings, etc. Maximum grants of $750,000 are available to city and county governments under the Regular program.

Cities with 3,500 or less persons can receive a maximum grant of $600,000 with no match required. To qualify, a project must meet one of the three (3) national objectives outlined above and must demonstrate that the project will correct a potentially serious health and safety threat to the community.

CDBG Economic Development This program is designed to stimulate economic growth, create jobs, and expand business opportunities in eligible communities throughout the region. CMPDD works closely with local governments, businesses, and nonprofit organizations to identify projects that meet program requirements and support sustainable economic development.

Projects typically focus on business expansion, job creation, and improvements to infrastructure that directly benefit local economic activity.

Eligible activities under the CDBG Economic Development program may include: Infrastructure improvements to support business growth (water, sewer, roads, utilities) Acquisition, construction, or renovation of commercial or industrial facilities Assistance to for-profit businesses to create or retain jobs Workforce development initiatives tied to economic expansion CMPDD assists member governments with project planning, grant applications, and compliance with all state and federal program requirements.
