The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving is now Greater Hartford Gives Foundation, because this is where the entire region comes together to give. Throughout our 100-year history as Greater Hartford’s community foundation, we’ve brought together residents with nonprofits to create change from the ground up.

We are committed to removing barriers to opportunity so all residents can reach their potential and the region can succeed. Our work depends on partnership with nonprofits, donors, and the community. Learn more about what we do Ryan O’Halloran, 1984-2026 Ryan was truly dedicated to service. His commitment to Greater Hartford, particularly the City of Hartford, was evident in his professional and volunteer roles focused on community gardens, neighborhood beautification, clean energy, and community building.
A treasured colleague, Ryan was well known for his kind and gentle manner, and he developed a wide circle of friends among the Foundation team and throughout the region. He was instrumental in cultivating the Foundation’s ties with the business community and forging relationships with local professional advisors. He possessed an uncanny ability to connect philanthropically-minded people with opportunities to uplift our community.

We started 29 community funds — one for each town in Greater Hartford — to empower communities in our region to take ownership of the needs in their town. Greater Futures Scholarship Fund Along with Hartford Promise, we created the Greater Futures Scholarship Fund, a first-of-its-kind program that will award scholarships of up to $100,000 to high-achieving Hartford Public Schools students.
