Community Grants (Health & Wellness Focus Area) is sponsored by Impact100 East Bay. Impact100 East Bay awards grants to nonprofits in Alameda or Contra Costa counties in five focus areas, including Health & Wellness.

Our Impact- Impact100 East Bay Impact100 East Bay’s goal is to provide high-impact grants that reach under-served populations, support nonprofits, and highlight unmet needs in our community. Through grant-making, we invest in nonprofits financially and by partnering with them to familiarize ourselves with their programs, services, and the communities they serve.

In return, our partners assure us our process allows them to think bigger and more strategically about the work they do and the impact they have. Dream Youth Clinic will increase the number of foster youths who can participate in its trauma-informed, academic and behavioral health Tutoring Program.

Meet the Finalist Video (Coming Soon) Hijas del Campo will expand a 2025 pilot program to transition five part-time community health workers ( promotores ) to part-time, regular staff, expanding outreach hours and increasing the number of farmworkers served, while offering the promotores a living wage and health insurance.

Meet the Finalist Video – (Coming Soon) Students Rising Above will deliver a new Pre-College Bridge Program to provide individualized support to Oakland high school students as they complete college applications and financial aid forms, apply for scholarships, and make decisions about their futures.

Meet the Finalist Video (Coming Soon) Roots Community Health will train and hire two doulas to provide 70 low-income women in Oakland with perinatal health services, replicating a successful program in Santa Clara County. Meet the Finalist Video – (Coming Soon) Changemaker Grant: $85,000 The project will increase the number of foster youths who can participate in its trauma-informed, academic and behavioral health Tutoring Program.

The organization was formerly known as CASA of Contra Costa County. Impact Grant Winner in 2019. Changemaker Grant: $75,000 This new program will use HtH’s technology-training program model to prepare early-career, underserved youth to participate in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) revolution.

At the end of the program, graduates will have a certificate to show potential employers they have valuable expertise to apply to new jobs. This is an expansion of a successful pilot that provides ongoing career coaching for graduates of their entry-level healthcare/administrative support training programs to work towards advancing their careers and creates a toolkit for other local job training programs. Impact Grant Winner in 2018.

This pilot will use an existing food truck to provide fresh, organic produce and value-added products priced on a sliding scale to neighborhoods lacking current access in West Contra Costa and Alameda counties. The organic produce will be grown on neighborhood Planting Justice Farms by their employees, most of whom are impacted by the justice system.

Food Security Collaborative Five nonprofits in Contra Costa County will work together to create a “heat map” to identify communities that lack food access, learn where the services overlap, and determine the most efficient way to resolve gaps in food distribution. This map will inform how the agencies work together to serve food insecure people.

Jewish Family & Community Services In response to cuts in government funding, JF&CS is creating a program to serve newly-arriving refugees. Among services provided, the volunteers will help with housing, school registration, government benefit registration, navigating the US financial system, job placement, and treatment for psychological/medical issues.

Changemaker Grant: $75,000 The program’s goal is to teach survivors of domestic abuse how to organize a household, find employment, open/manage checking accounts, etc. Financial abuse, which isolates the victims, and keeps them dependent on the abusers, occurs in 99% of domestic abuse.

Building on a successful program that trains underserved Black, LatinX and female high school juniors and seniors in biotechnology, BP proposes to provide similar training and support services in robotics to Berkeley high students. Meet the Finalists Powerpoint JAL is the only pro bono law firm that serves survivors of human trafficking.

They propose to start a “pro bono academy” to train lawyers about California’s vacatur laws that allow felony records of trafficked persons, forced to commit crimes, to be expunged. Meet the Finalists Powerpoint Change Maker Grant: $50,000 Serves the underserved food insecure community.

They propose a Food Rescue Program, that will comply with a new law requiring 30% of all food purveyors to redistribute unused food deploying a “uber-eats” type application. Meet the Finalists Powerpoint Community Resources for Science Their grant request is to fund the Amazing Math & Science Explorations (AMASE) program for K – 5 Educators in Alameda and West CC Counties.

They will develop grade appropriate Math & Science Curriculum working with STEM experts. Their grant request is to provide an additional day of free dental clinic operations for low income residents in East Contra Costa County. Dentists on Wheels Executive Summary Dentists on Wheels Wish List One time community grant: Their grant request is to fund a year of “Breakfast Bags” for highly vulnerable seniors in East Contra Costa County.

This is a pilot program, which augments their standard dinner meals with additional food to sustain vulnerable seniors. Meals on Wheels Executive Summary Meals on Wheels Wish List Aspire Education, was established in 2005. Since then, it has gathered a small community of educators and tutors whose expertise and emotional intelligence has empowered East Bay students with the skills to become independent, active learners.

Aspire adds to its impact by inviting former students to be trained in leadership and communication skills with the goal of mentoring younger students in literacy through their flagship program Community Reading Buddies (CRB). The grant from Impact100 East Bay will triple the number of students served in this unique program from 400 (200 mentors and 200 young readers) to 1200 in 2022.

Aspire Education Impact Award Reports Renaissance Entrepreneurship Center Renaissance Entrepreneurship Center will use its grant to expand support of existing and new business owners seeking to improve the use of technology (on-line websites, payment technology, etc.) to assist them to expand and rebuild their operations during and post COVID.

They will also serve un-and under-employed persons seeking opportunities of entrepreneurship to rebuild their livelihoods through their center in Richmond (serving Contra Costa and Alameda Counties). Their clients are 89% lower income, 78% women and 78% people of color.

Renaissance Center Impact Award Reports Covenant House of California Covenant House of California received a $109,000 Impact Grant to implement an on-site mental health program for youth facing homelessness at their Oakland facility, leveraging the success of a similar project in Los Angeles.

Covenant House Impact Award Reports CASA of Contra Costa County Impact 100 East Bay awarded $108,000 to CASA (Count Appointed Special Advocates) of Contra Costa County for their Online/Telephone Mental Health Program for Foster Youth. As as result of the pilot they were awarded a $1,000,000 grant to expand the program. CASA Impact Award Reports Impact 100 East Bay awarded $103,000 to Opportunity Junction’s “Roadmap to College” program.

This program, in partnership with Los Medanos College, assists East Contra Costa “high risk” youth, ages 18-24, to earn an AA degree, learn one of many technical trades, or prepare for transfer to earn a BA/BS degree. Impact 100 East Bay awarded $55,000 to MISSSEY, an organization devoted to supporting and advocating for youth who are victims of sex trafficking.

This “learn to work” pilot resulted in their Thrive Program which teaches trafficking survivors “life skills”.
