The grant term is one year or less and may begin no earlier than January 1, 2026. Final reports are due within 30 days of the project's end date or upon the full expenditure of funds, whichever comes first. Applicants must be located in and/or provide services within Kalamazoo County and propose work that benefits County residents.
Eligible applicants include: Nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations Educational institutions (public schools, colleges, universities) Organizations with a Fiscal Sponsor Nonprofit organizations or public entities in good standing with the IRS Not eligible for funding: Religious or political groups Requests for activities outside the funding timeline or to reimburse costs incurred before the grant term To be considered for funding, applicants must prepare and submit the following materials: A cover letter signed by the senior administrative official The most recent organizational financial statement and budget The proposed project or program budget, using the template provided by the County Download the Budget Template (Excel) A list of current Board of Directors Follow these instructions to submit your completed proposal and supporting materials: Submit one (1) completed application packet through the website.

The Board of Commissioners typically holds a budget retreat in July and budget meetings in August, September, and October. All meetings are open to the public, and applicants are encouraged to attend to stay informed.
Grant Agreement & Reporting Requirements If awarded funding, recipients must enter into a grant agreement that identifies the grant’s purpose, the public purpose served, specific performance measurements to be attained, and final reporting requirements. The final report (maximum 1,500 words) is due within 30 days of the project’s end date or upon the full expenditure of funds.
The County will provide a link for you to submit your final report, which must include: Data collected on outputs or outcomes Photos, testimony, and case study information demonstrating success Summary of how funds were utilized Narrative on lessons learned Failure to provide the final report and all other required reports may disqualify applicants from future grant opportunities.
All agreements and reports must be prepared and sent to the Office of the County Administrator/Controller. Compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Title II of the ADA prohibits discrimination by public entities. All County-funded new, remodeled, and retrofitted facilities must comply with ADA guidelines and County ADA-related policies.
