Mercy Health Foundation Springfield is an internal supporting organization that aligns with the strategic and philanthropic direction of Mercy Springfield. Mercy Health Foundation Springfield formed in 2001 thanks to a generous donation from J. F.

Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a conservative man but when it came to helping others, he gave all he could, even after he passed away in 1999 at the age of 95. The former MFA Milling Company manager, cattle farmer and St.

John’s Advisory Board Chairman left a generous amount to St. John’s for nursing education, helping many students each year with the J. F.

Johnson Nursing Scholarship Fund. Today, gifts to Mercy Health Foundation Springfield help enhance patient programs, fund life-saving equipment and capital projects and support charity care programs and services for those who need it most. Our charitable efforts in support of the hospital enhance the healthcare opportunities for the Springfield community, as well as throughout Southwest Missouri.

Cancer Care: Provides access to advanced diagnostic capabilities, therapies, leading-edge treatments and compassionate care, close to home. Funding to the cancer care program also provides patient assistance, such as gas cards, transportation and lodging for those in need, as well as resources for support groups.

Charitable Care: Provides continued support for the Co-Worker Crisis fund, McAuley Prescription Assistance fund, MSU Care Clinic and our Hospice program in partnership with Integrity Home Care & Hospice – Springfield Healthcare Workforce Development: Provides support for the Career Advancement Center (CAC), Graduate Medical Education (GRE) Residency Program and the Health Sciences Academy (HSA).

Together, we can equip the next generation of health care workers to meet our community’s needs. Women’s and Children’s: Supports a comprehensive range of services to meet women’s unique health needs, including high-risk breast care, maternity care, low-intervention births through our midwifery program and care for our tiniest patients through NICU and pediatric services.

Mercy’s compassionate care helped Mark and his family through his cancer diagnosis and journey to healing. Tianna Legere scheduled her mammogram appointment on the mobile mammography bus because it was convenient. This screening revealed areas of concern that led to a diagnosis of breast cancer and lifesaving treatments.

Because of her early diagnosis and intervention, Tianna is now cancer-free. Thanks to donors like you: was raised in support of our community in FY25 was allocated in support of our community in FY25 Because of your generosity, our Foundation continues to make a lasting difference for Mercy’s patients, programs and services. In FY25, you helped us raise more than $2 million — and together, we allocated over $5.

7 million to improve the health of our community. This impact was made possible not only through this year’s gifts, but also through the strength of prior-year reserves and investment income. Thanks to you, we were ready to meet urgent needs with care and compassion.

Every year, lives are changed because donors like you stepped forward to give. This snapshot illustrates some of Mercy’s most critical fundraising initiatives that will benefit not only our patients and their families, but also our caregivers and our community. More than $650K raised to provide nurse navigation, music therapy and advanced treatment technologies for patients with cancer.

More than $770K committed for a new Career Advancement Center to attract, educate and train future health care professionals. More than $130K funded two wheelchair accessible vehicles providing transportation to and from medical appointments for Greene County seniors. At Mercy, we understand that a cancer diagnosis doesn’t just affect the patient — it impacts the entire family.

Mark Jenks’ journey began when he noticed unusual bruising around his eyes. After a series of tests, Dr. Annum Faisal diagnosed Mark with multiple myeloma, a rare and aggressive form of blood cancer. Mark lives in Mountain Grove, MO, with his wife and their five adopted children, each with special needs.

Securing safe, reliable care for their children during Mark’s treatments proved nearly impossible, so the entire family made the hour-long drive to Springfield for every appointment. That’s when Mercy’s cancer navigation team stepped in. From the very beginning, Mark’s nurse navigator and social worker were there for him, offering critical support throughout his treatment.

They assisted with appointment scheduling, coordinated communication between medical departments and provided help with securing gas cards, hotel stays, nutritional supplements and other vital needs. They even arranged fun, budget-friendly activities for Mark’s family to enjoy during long waits between appointments. “Everything that has happened to me to bring me where I am today is nothing short of a bunch of miracles,” Mark says.

Mercy’s cancer navigation team touches the lives of over 400 patients every month, assisting with not just the medical but also the financial and logistical challenges of cancer treatment. Cancer navigation services, along with other non-billable support services, are essential lifelines for patients and families—but they are only possible thanks to the generosity of our donors.

The Springfield community answered the call at the 2024 Colors of Hope Gala, raising a record-breaking $650,002, which directly supported the life-changing services that Mark and his family received. Thanks to these generous donations, Mercy was able to hire two additional navigators, allowing almost 100% of patients at Mercy Springfield’s C. H.

Chub O’Reilly Cancer Center to receive personalized navigation and support.
