Hope for Veterans Programs in NJ - Community Hope Hope for Veterans® Programs Community Hope is the largest nonprofit serving homeless veterans and families in New Jersey. We address a major underlying source of veterans’ homelessness: High rates of mental illness, trauma and substance abuse and the challenges are increasing.
Roughly half the soldiers who served in Iraq and Afghanistan have been diagnosed with mental health conditions, including one in five that suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder. Through our Hope for Veterans Programs, we have rescued over 6,000 veterans and their families from homelessness and despair. We provide transitional housing, permanent supportive housing, rapid re-housing and homelessness prevention.
The services we provide are essential to our veterans and include mental health counseling, transportation and employment counseling. We believe that those who honorably served our country and defended our freedom deserve a roof over their heads and to live with dignity.

Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) Community Hope is the leading nonprofit serving homeless veterans and families in New Jersey. Our Hope for Veterans® Transitional Housing is a 95-bed transitional housing program for homeless veterans located on the Lyons VA campus. We also operate an 8-bed program in Bergen County.
Permanent Supportive Housing Permanent Supportive Housing The first veteran to move into our newly-constructed Valley Brook Village in October 2013 had served in Vietnam and had been homeless for decades. When he opened the door to his one-bedroom apartment, he had the first place to call home in more years then he could remember.
Community Hope, in partnership with the NJ Department of Community Affairs and the NJ Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, is working to end veteran homelessness by strengthening support systems, providing rapid access to housing, and ensuring that homelessness is rare, brief, and non-recurring.
