Port of Los Angeles Now Accepting Applications for its Community Investment Grant Program | Port of Los Angeles 425 S. – March 1, 2019 – The Port of Los Angeles will be awarding up to $1 million in non-taxpayer funded community grants to support events and initiatives benefiting Los Angeles Harbor communities and the LA Waterfront. The Port’s Community Investment Grants Program applications and information are now available on the Port’s website .

Interested local organizations can learn more about the grants program and application guidelines at workshops to be held Tuesday, April 2, at Banning’s Landing Community Center in Wilmington, and Wednesday, April 3, at the Port of Los Angeles headquarters in San Pedro. Applications are due by 4 p. m.

on Monday, May 6. Grants are awarded based on criteria outlined by the Port, which specifies that initiatives or events help promote maritime and Port-related workforce development and education; sustainable practices aimed at preservation and conservation of natural resources in the Port environment; or the LA Waterfront, its history and culture.

Funding, which comes from Port-generated revenues, is available in three categories: small ($5,000 and under), medium (between $5,001 - $99,999) and large ($100,000 or more). Since fiscal year 2013-14, the Community Investment Grants Program has provided $5 million in funding for 176 local initiatives. To be considered, an applicant must be a nonprofit organization with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status.

All grant applications will be reviewed by a committee comprised of a representative from Los Angeles City Council District 15, a San Pedro community representative, a Wilmington community representative, and three internal Port staff members. The committee is expected to announce final grant awards in mid-June.
