Community Self-Determination Grant Program is sponsored by NDN Collective. This program supports, strengthens, and invests in the long-term visions, sustainability, and collective power of Indigenous Tribal Nations, Pueblos, tribal communities, grassroots movements, and Indigenous-led organizations.

COMMUNITY SELF-DETERMINATION - NDN COLLECTIVE NDN's 2025 Grant Process includes Strengthening Movement and Community Organizing in Community Self-Determination (CSD) Grantmaking.

While we will not have an open call for the Community Self Determination grant program in 2025, we will continue to offer intentional power-building opportunities and resources to current and previous grantee-partners that we have had the honor of resourcing since 2019. All grant seekers are welcome to utilize the Power Building Library to support your efforts to Defend, Develop and Decolonize.

This grant opportunity will provide Tribal Nations, communities and Indigenous- led organizations an investment in self-determination, building collective Indigenous power to Defend, Develop and Decolonize. At the heart of this grant lies our commitment to combat climate change and ensure justice for Indigenous Peoples.

Tribal Nations and their tribal nonprofit entities or tribal programs; First Nations, Inuit, and Metis communities; Indigenous-led organizations, including nonprofits and businesses.

Applicants must be Indigenous-led, based in, and working in solidarity with people who are Indigenous to North America (Canada, Mexico, United States), and related Island Nations of Hawai’i, Borikén/Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Community Self-Determination Grant Program Supports Efforts That: Propose solutions to dismantle structural racism while defending the air, land, waters, and Indigenous rights.

Community economic development based on sustainable and regenerative principles Climate change solutions and mitigation Reclamation, transmission, and continuity of language, culture, ceremonial practices, traditional governance and decision-making structures, and lifeways. Budget: As part of the application, applicants must propose a budget for the use of the grant funds.

The flexible, multi-year funding may be used to support expenses including, but not limited to, general operating support, power building, capital, and holistic support for comprehensive initiatives and specific programs. Please see Frequently Asked Questions for lists of eligible expenses.

Attendance: Awarded grantees are invited to the Community Self-Determination Welcome & Orientation session, as well as online Powerbuilding and Sharing Circles facilitated by NDN staff. Reporting: Awarded grantees are required to submit two reports throughout the grant cycle, a Mid-term Report, and a Final Report at the end of the grant year.
