United Way of Greater Stark County | Stark Community Foundation United Way of Greater Stark County United Way of Greater Stark County provides support for our community’s greatest needs serving both Stark and Carroll Counties by providing services that address our community's critical health and human service needs. We continue to help children and families who experience the burdens of poverty because our future depends on it.
Our work supports preventing or lessening the impacts of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) during early childhood among those who live under the federal poverty level. ACEs are potentially traumatic events that occur in childhood and Stark County children have more ACEs than children in other communities due to crisis-level poverty.
By coordinating and collaborating with community partners, we can put the family at the center and wrap-around services to support them for long-term success. Programs like early childhood education, food programs, housing, and shelter services, social-emotional training and intervention, and emergency rent and utility assistance help to stabilize families and reduce ACEs in our youth.
Our organization demonstrates its effectiveness through strong leadership by our staff, board, and impact council who together lead in the development of solutions to critical social issues impacting the health, education, and financial stability of our community.
Decisions are made within the context of the community, collaborating with local stakeholders and nonprofits to build programs to meet the needs of families and extend impact into our neighborhoods.
From national grant coordination to advance health equity and support community tax assistance programs, to the nearly $3 million invested in community programs, we have leveraged funding to make a difference in the lives of thousands of people in Stark and Carroll counties.
United Way of Greater Stark County’s mission is building our community’s capacity to alleviate the impact of poverty and empowering families to reach their potential. United Way serves children 0-8 and their families who live at/below the federal poverty level. Our work is focused on neighborhoods with the highest rates of childhood poverty.
United Way supports a strong start in early childhood to prevent or lessen the impacts of Adverse Childhood Experiences among those who live in poverty. ACEs are potentially traumatic events that occur in childhood. The more ACEs a child has, the greater risk of harm.
United Way’s goal is to employ strategies to reduce or mitigate the impact of ACEs by: building skills thru early childhood education, home visiting and after school programs; improving relationships between children and a trusted adult through caregiver training, mentoring & community violence prevention programs; and supporting the economic needs of families with young children.
