Community Wildfire Defense Project Community Wildfire Defense Project The Community Wildfire Defense Grant (CWDG) is a national grant fund managed by the United States Forest Service that was part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
It is a $1 billion, five-year program to prioritize communities at highest risk for wildfire impacts to develop natural hazards plans and implement projects within their Community Wildfire Protection Plans. These projects can include activities such as fuels reduction, community education, and infrastructure improvements. Wasco County applied for a CWDG in 2023 and successfully attained a 5-year investment of $5.
9 million dollars in May 2024. The project is a collaborative effort on the part of multiple partners to address a variety of goals and tasks within our local natural hazard plans, including the Community Wildfire Protection Plan. Wasco County serves as the fiscal agent.
The Wasco County Community Wildfire Defense project is funded for five years. Work is slated to begin sometime in the Fall/Winter of 2024. The area of focus for this funding source encompasses the five communities of Wamic, Pine Hollow, Pine Grove, Tygh Valley and Maupin.
