Historic agricultural structures listed in the Heritage Barn Register, Washington Heritage Register, or National Register of Historic Places, are eligible to receive grant funds. For the 25-27 biennium, heritage barn grant applications are due October 19th at midnight.

Grants are awarded through a competitive application process. Any cemetery containing five or more burials, with at least one burial more than 50 years old, is eligible for grant funding.

Counties July - September; even years Legislatively-Approved List 7,443 Department of Archaeology & Historic Preservation Historic Theater Capital Grants Program Grants are provided to eligible organizations for capital projects that restore and rehabilitate historical theater buildings.
To qualify, a theater must have been originally built as a theater, be currently operating as, or will be restored to operate as, a theater, and be listed (or be applying to be listed) in the Washington Heritage Register or the National Register of Historic Places.

In addition to funding construction projects, CERB provides limited funding for studies that evaluate high-priority economic development and broadband projects. The board reviews projects and meets every two months.

Other Other (see program website link) Other 8,300 Department of Commerce Connecting Housing to Infrastructure Program Grants for sewer, water or stormwater improvements and/or waived system development charges for new affordable housing projects. The project must be located in a city or county that imposed a sales and use tax for affordable housing.
Projects must also be located within the urban growth boundary, begin construction within 24 months of award, and have a strong probability of serving residents within specified income levels for at least 25 years.

Grants may be used for projects that address land development and military operations that impact the economy, environment, or quality of life opportunities for local communities. Eligible projects include land acquisition, recovery or protection of endangered species, increase affordable housing, and others.

Non-Profit Organizations, Tribes April - June; even years Legislatively-Approved List 7,688 Department of Ecology Affordable Housing Cleanup Grant Program Provides funds to public, nonprofit, and private entities intending to remediate contaminated property to develop affordable housing. Categories include: Affordable Housing Planning Grants and Affordable Housing Cleanup Grants.

The program’s primary objective is to electrify school buses, but the program will also support idle reduction and other diesel equipment engine replacements.

The competitive federal program provides grants for projects that protect and restore coastal wetland resources. Projects may include acquisition of a real property interest in a coastal wetland ecosystem and the restoration of coastal wetlands.

FbD works to accelerate integrated efforts to reduce flood risks and restore habitat along Washington's major river corridors. Its goal is to improve the resiliency of floodplains in order to protect local communities and the health of the environment.

Eligible activities include development of integrated aquatic vegetation management plans, plant control activities, education and information projects, aquatic plant mapping and inventory, and pilot and demonstration projects, evaluation of implementation effectiveness and follow-up monitoring.

Currently, programs are in development or available for auto degreasers, cosmetics, PCB lights, and thermal receipts.
Cities, Counties, For-Profit Organizations, Non-Profit Organizations, Other, Towns Other (see program website link) Other 2,000 Department of Ecology Reducing Toxic Woodstove Emissions Ecology provides grants to local clean air agencies to assist communities that violate or are close to violating federal fine particle pollution standards to remove uncertified wood-burning home heating devices with cleaner home heating options.
Priority will be given to communities at high risk of violating national ambient air quality standards to prevent violations and avoid significant economic, environmental, and public health consequences. Other July - September; annually State Agency Award 4,164 Department of Ecology Remedial Action Grants and Loans Provides funds to local governments to clean up contaminated areas.
Categories are: integrated planning grants; oversight remedial action grants; independent remedial action grants; and area-wide groundwater investigation grants. Local governments can apply for a loan or grant to help clean up hazardous waste sites supervised by the Department of Ecology or the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency under a legal order or decree.

Other Other (see program website link) Other 3,000 Department of Ecology Streamflow Restoration Implementation Grants Provides funding for projects that improve streamflow and instream resources. Priority is given to watersheds and areas addressed in the law and basins with Endangered Species Act-listed fish species.
Cities, Counties, Non-Profit Organizations, Special Purpose Districts, State Agencies, Tribes Other (see program website link) Other 40,000 Department of Ecology Waste Tire Pile Cleanup and Prevention The tire program provides funding to local governments to prevent and remove waste tire piles, and the enforcement and education on tire storage and hauling regulation.

These projects are wastewater treatment facilities, stormwater, onsite sewage systems, or projects to reduce nonpoint sources of water pollution. Applications are accepted annually between August and October.
Cities, Counties, Conservation Districts, Non-Profit Organizations, Special Purpose Districts, Towns, Tribes Other (see program website link) Other 755,000 Department of Health Drinking Water Assistance Programs The Drinking Water Assistance Program awards low-interest loans and grants and provides technical assistance to publicly and privately-owned community and not-for-profit noncommunity water systems for planning, engineering, consolidation and acquisition, preconstruction, lead service line inventories and replacement, and construction projects that improve drinking water infrastructure and increase public health.

Cities, Counties, Community Water Systems, Non-Profit Organizations, Other, Public Utility Districts, Special Purpose Districts Other (see program website link) State Agency Award 145,000 Department of Natural Resources Forest Riparian Easement Program FREP compensates eligible small forest landowners in exchange for a 50-year easement on “qualifying timber.
” This is the timber the landowner is required to leave un-harvested as a result of forest practices rules protecting Washington’s forests and fish. Landowners cannot cut or remove the qualifying timber during the easement period. The landowner still owns the property and retains full access, but has “leased” the trees and their associated riparian function to the state.
Landowners Other (see program website link) First Come, First Served 4,900 Department of Natural Resources Rivers and Habitat Open Space Program Purchase of conservation easements from landowners with forested land located in a channel-migration zone (CMZ) and/or critical habitat for state-listed threatened or endangered species.
The two types of eligible land: 1) forestland habitat critical for state-listed threatened or endangered species (critical habitat), and 2) river habitat called unconfined CMZ, which are islands of timber within an actively shifting river channel.
Landowners Other (see program website link) State Agency Award 4,631 New Department of Natural Resources Trust Land Transfer Program Funds the purchase of replacement trust lands in order to enable the transfer of economically underperforming trust lands with high ecological values and public benefits to a receiving agency for the purpose of becoming parks or other open space areas.
Cities, Counties, Public Utility Districts, State Agencies, Towns, Tribes Other (see program website link) Legislatively-Approved List 16,900 Department of Transportation Aviation Revitalization Loans A revolving loan program to assist public-use general aviation airports that may be publicly or privately owned, but are available for public use, and must have less than 75,000 annual commercial air service passenger enplanements as published by the Federal Aviation Administration.
Eligible projects can include hangars, fueling facilities, business parks on airport property, paid parking facilities, passenger amenities, and other revenue-generating or cost-cutting developments.
Other Other (see program website link) State Agency Award 5,000 Public Schools Agricultural Science in Schools Grant to FFA Grants administered by the Future Farmers of America Foundation to furnish equipment for agricultural science instruction.
School Districts Other (see program website link) State Agency Award 5,150 Public Schools Career Preparation and Launch Equipment Grants Competitive grants of no more than $200,000 for school districts to purchase and install career and technical education equipment that expands work-integrated learning opportunities.
School Districts October - December; odd years State Agency Award 4,000 Public Schools Healthy Kids, Healthy Schools Grants Comprised of two separate grant programs: 1) Grants to school districts for the purchase of equipment or to make repairs to existing equipment that is related to improving children's physical health and nutrition and may not exceed $200,000 for any one school district; and 2) Grants to school districts, charter schools, and state-tribal education compact schools, for the replacement of lead-contaminated pipes and drinking water fixtures.
School Districts, Tribes October - December; odd years State Agency Award 13,000 Public Schools School Construction Assistance Program Grants Grants to school districts to assist in construction and renovation of K-12 school facilities. State assistance is formula-based.
School Districts Other (see program website link) State Agency Award 429,572 New Public Schools School Dist Indoor Air Quality/Energy Efficiency Grants to school districts for indoor air quality assessment, installation, repair, or replacement of HVAC, air filtration enhancements, and general air quality improvements that improve student health and safety.
School Districts Other (see program website link) Other 17,500 Public Schools School District Health and Safety Funds for the following grant types: (a) emergency grants for unexpected and imminent health and safety hazards at K–12 public schools, including Skill Centers, which will impact the day-to-day operations of the school facility; (b) nonrecurring urgent small repair grants at K-12 public schools, excluding skill centers, that could impact the health and safety of students and staff if not completed; and (c) equal access facilities grants for K-12 public schools, including skill centers.
School Districts Other (see program website link) State Agency Award 31,000 Public Schools School Seismic Safety Grant Program Grant funding for schools in high seismic hazard areas, built before 1998 and not retrofitted to 2005 seismic standards.
School Districts, Tribes Other (see program website link) State Agency Award 151,451 Public Schools Small Distr/Tribal Compact Schools Modernization Competitive construction and planning grants to small public school districts (enrollments of 1,000 or fewer) and state tribal compact schools to repair or replace significant building systems in K-12 school facilities.
Energy assessment grants are also available for small school districts meeting the enrollment eligibility threshold. Small district modernization grants for school districts may not exceed $6 million in total cost for the 2027-29 application cycle.
School Districts, Tribes July - September; odd years Legislatively-Approved List 202,351 Recreation and Conservation Office Aquatic Lands Enhancement Account Competitive grants for the purchase, improvement, or protection of aquatic lands for public purposes, and for providing and improving access to such lands.
Cities, Counties, State Agencies, Towns, Tribes Other (see program website link) Legislatively-Approved List 4,351 Recreation and Conservation Office Boating Facilities Program Competitive grants for the acquisition, development, and planning of projects for motorized boating facilities, including launching ramps, guest moorage, and support facilities on freshwater and saltwater.
Funding is divided equally between state and local projects. The grant program is administered jointly by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Recreation and Conservation Office.

Projects are prioritized based on: (a) the amount and quality of habitat opened; (b) the number of fish species benefited; (c) other upstream and downstream barriers; and (d) cost. The program is managed jointly with the Department of Natural Resources.
Landowners Rolling State Agency Award 7,904 Recreation and Conservation Office Firearms and Archery Range Recreation Program Competitive grants to acquire, develop, and renovate public and private nonprofit firearm range and archery training/practice facilities.
