Grants & Funding Opportunities 4. Conservation Technical Assistance Program Grants The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is introducing a new competitive grant opportunity under the Conservation Technical Assistance Program (CTAP). These grants are designed to support both the Regenerative Agriculture Programand the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program(MAEAP).
The purpose of the Conservation Technical Assistance Program (CTAP) is to deliver measurable outcomes within its designated service area by supporting two cornerstone initiatives: the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP) and the Regenerative Agriculture Program. * **MAEAP’s** mission is to promote and recognize the adoption of practices that reduce environmental risk.
This voluntary program helps farms implement environmentally sound practices that protect Michigan’s natural resources while supporting long-term farm viability. * The **Regenerative Agriculture Program**'s mission is to champion a regenerative approach to agriculture, resulting in farmer prosperity, improved farm ecosystems, increased community health, and vibrant agricultural systems.
the Regenerative Agriculture Program provides education, tools, and resources to help farmers adopt regenerative practices, improve soil health, and access emerging market opportunities that value sustainability.
Together, these programs enable CTAP to strengthen Michigan’s agricultural landscape by promoting conservation, advancing regenerative practices, and supporting farmers in achieving environmental stewardship and economic resilience. ### Eligibility Criteria: Conservation Districts that meet all statutory requirements outlined in theCONSERVATION DISTRICT LAW Act 463 of 1998may be considered for CTAP grant funding.
To be eligible for a grant of $50,000. 00 or more from the department, a conservation district must do all of the following: 1. Annually submit to the department a budget setting forth the purpose and amount of the expenses expected to be incurred and the source and amount of revenue expected to be received during the ensuing fiscal year.
2. Maintain accurate financial records of receipts and disbursements and uniform accounting in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles under procedures prescribed by the department. 3.
Provide for a biennial independent certified audit by a certified public accountant of the financial records, accounts, and procedures of the district. The audit report shall show profits and losses and the financial condition of the district. 4.
Agree to comply with subsection. Selection will be based on the following factors: * Administrative: These criteria assess the administrative capacity of the conservation district (e.g., operational board, approved annual budget, completed a successful audit, is in good financial standing, etc.). * Operational: These criteria are related to past grant performance and current operational capacity as assessed by program staff.
* Programmatic: Based programmatic statewide targets and available funding. A Request for Proposals (RFP) will be issued in April 2026 for Michigan Conservation Districts to apply. This grant opportunity includes total funding of $3,000,000 annually for three years.
