CPRG : Center of Policy Research & Governance - India CPRG - SOCIAL SCIENCE RESEARCH GRANT 2022 The Center of Policy Research and Governance (CPRG India) invites applications for the second edition of the CPRG Social Sciences Research Grant (CPRG-SSR Grant). The grant aims to support students and early career researchers working on pertinent themes in Humanities and Social Sciences.
We invite applications from postgraduate, doctoral students, and postdoctoral researchers. The fellowship is open to Indian students from all Indian and foreign universities. Funds are available for fieldwork, archival research, acquisition of primary sources (including reprography of manuscripts), research assistance, or other academic activities.
For Indian and foreign university students and researchers, grants can range from Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 1,00,000.
All amounts would be disbursed to an Indian bank account. Research focusing on contemporary India in disciplines such as, but not limited to, sociology (caste & other social identities), political science, international relations (historical and contemporary), anthropology and diaspora studies, law and jurisprudence, economics, development studies, environment, gender studies, among others.
Indian value systems, culture, and history Research focusing on Indian value systems, culture, and history (ancient, medieval, and modern) in humanities and social sciences. The above research themes are outlined for the purpose of direction. However, we invite applications in the broader field of social sciences and humanities even beyond the topics mentioned.
Preference will be given to research pertaining to Indian Students or researchers should be affiliated with recognized universities at the postgraduate level or above and must have good academic standing. Preference would be given to projects with the viability of publication. Preference would be given to those who have secured primary grants from elsewhere and want to use the CPRG-SSR grant to supplement them.
For doctoral students, preference would be given to those at advanced stages of their degree. For master's students, preference would be given to those who can demonstrate potential for further academic research. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis starting from 15th September till 30th The complete application package would consist of a research proposal, CV, writing sample, and Budget estimate.
The research proposal should be 2-3 pages (Font size 12 pt.) and should include the objective of the research, academic contribution, methodology and research design, and broad timeline of the project. It should also include justification for resources.
In case of joint application, CVs of all co-applicants should be uploaded as a single Only published academic articles or book chapters will be accepted as writing samples. Applicants can submit co-authored publications as their writing sample. If primary grants are secured from other sources, a letter of the award should be For acquiring resources such as manuscripts, a quotation should be included.

The last date for the submission of the research proposal will be April 21, 2022 till 11:59 PM IST. Can I submit a chapter of my thesis or any other academic writings as a writing sample? Yes, chapters from the applicant’s thesis and other academic writings can be considered as writing samples.
Can I submit co-authored writings as writing samples? No, co-authored publications cannot be considered as writing samples. Can Joint Research Projects be accepted for Research Grants?
Yes, Joint Research Projects are eligible for research grants. For joint research projects, both the candidates have to upload their CV in the online application form. Do I need to have completed courses on the Indian Knowledge System at Postgraduate level to apply for the Research Grant?
It is not an eligibility criteria for an applicant to have completed a course on IKS. Can students from disciplines other than social sciences and humanities apply for the Research Grant? Yes, Students from any discipline can apply for the Research Grant, but this grant will be offered to candidates who can perform research in social sciences and humanities.
In which currency can I get the amount of my Research Grant? The Research Grant shall be paid in INR only. Do I need to have an Indian bank account to avail my Research Grant?
Yes, all the selected applicants should have an Indian bank account to avail the Research grant. I’m a recent graduate and currently not enrolled in a university. Can I still apply for the Research Grant?
Candidates pursuing post-graduation and above can apply for the Research Grants I’m an independent research scholar. Can I apply for the Research Grant? Yes, you can apply for the Research Grant as long as you meet the minimum eligibility criteria, and have all the required documents.
Can I submit a recommendation letter from my employer or a non-academic person? We prefer letters from professors, academicians and subject experts. If it is absolutely impossible, you may submit a letter from an employer or non-academic person.
Is there a specific format required for proposals and writing samples? We do not have specific format requirements. Our general guideline is to be consistent with your style and citations in all your documents.
Can a faculty member from a university, college, institute or research Centre apply? No, the Research Grants can only be sanctioned to post-graduation, doctoral and post-doctoral candidates. Can I apply from abroad as an Indian citizen/educational resident?
Yes, Candidates can apply from abroad as an Indian citizen/educational resident as long as you meet the minimum eligibility requirements. When will I be informed about the final selection? We shall notify the candidate about the decision by email in the days immediately following the selection meeting.
