The Town of Plainfield is committed to preserving the unique character of our historic neighborhoods. The Curb Appeal Grant Program provides matching funds to help property owners of homes built in 1939 or earlier enhance their exterior appearance, protect historic features, and increase property value.

This program continues the Town’s long-standing tradition of supporting revitalization and historic preservation efforts throughout Plainfield’s neighborhoods.

The Curb Appeal Grant Program is designed to: Support Plainfield’s overall revitalization and strengthen neighborhood character Provide resources to property owners for exterior improvements Help leverage larger investments that sustain historic properties for generations Inspire surrounding property owners to invest in improvements Eligible property owners can receive matching reimbursement grants of up to $5,000 , covering 50% of approved project costs.

You may be eligible if you: Own a single-family or duplex property built in 1939 or earlier Your property is located within the Town of Plainfield municipal limits Your project improves areas visible from the street or public sidewalk Properties are not eligible if they: Contain three or more residential units Have delinquent taxes or utility bills Have received a grant award within the past 12 months Are out of compliance with current building codes or standards, unless the proposed project is intended to correct those issues and otherwise meets eligibility requirements.

Grants can help fund a wide range of exterior improvements, including: Landscaping, sod, and planting beds Exterior washing, painting, or staining Roof or siding replacement Masonry repair and tuck-pointing Window and door replacement Driveway and walkway improvements Note: Only professional labor can be claimed for reimbursement.

Professional labor is someone other than the property owner/applicant who is trained and engaged in such work for a career. Professional laborers are required to have a license or experience in their field.

The program does not cover: Projects not visible from the public right-of-way Labor by property owners, their employees, or relatives Work started before approval A completed Grant Application Form describing the project and estimated costs This Form must include an itemized description of the proposed project and an estimated cost for each item. Any item not listed will not be considered for reimbursement.

If the project is being completed by a contractor, a signed copy of their estimate to complete the work must be attached.

“Before” photos of the property Owner must obtain all necessary approvals and permits Step 2: Application Review Once the application is considered complete, the Curb Appeal Grant Committee will review the applications bimonthly starting from February through October to ensure that the proposed project(s) is/are eligible under the Program’s guidelines.

Bimonthly reviews will take during of each of the following months: Applications submitted during a review month will be deferred to the following review month Allow ten (10) business days for decision-making from the date of review. If the application meets program requirements, the Economic Development Director determines the amount of award, based on the estimated cost, grant caps, and required fund match.

Step 3: Complete Your Project Approved applicants have 6 months to finish their projects. Step 4: Submit for Reimbursement After your project is complete, you must provide: Copies of paid receipts/invoices “After” photos documenting the improvements Payments may take up to 45 days to process.
