The City of Jackson is paying homeowners for home improvement projects Add Us On Google Add as a preferred source on Google LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - The City of Jackson kick-started its new Curb Appeal Program for homeowners. The program is a part of a citywide movement to beautify residential areas.

It will assist property owners with various projects for the front of their homes. If you qualify, the city is offering up to $2,500, covering up to 80% of the cost per homeowner. Cory Mays is the grant coordinator for Jackson’s Community Development Department.

He says the program helps those who don’t have the time or money to complete their projects. “Maybe they want to do something nice to the front of the house. They have something they’ve wanted to clean up for a while, but they can’t stretch the dollar far enough to get that done,” said Mays.

“So, this program allows us to pay up to 80% of those expenses to help them out. ” To be eligible, your household income can not exceed 80% of the median income for your area, you must live within the city limits and use a licensed contractor. Projects that get approved will have to be completed within 45 days.

“Homeowners are free to take bids and use whatever company they want to complete the work. The only trick is that homeowners have to use a licensed contractor, and they can’t do the work themselves,” said Mays. With this program, you can do things like cleaning up your yard, repairing a broken window or driveway, and even power washing your home, but they all must be done in front of your house.

Terrence Hill has been living in Jackson for over 20 years, and is excited to see the city’s development move into the neighborhoods. “I’m glad that the City of Jackson is doing something for the residents,” said Hill. “I think they’re just trying to make the residents feel good about themselves, and make the city feel good about itself.
