CyberCorps: Scholarship For Service (SFS) | Cybersecurity Education and Research | Washington State University Applications for Fall 2026 are open WSU CyberCorps SFS Program The CyberCorps SFS program is designed to recruit and train the next generation of cybersecurity professionals to meet the needs of the cybersecurity mission for Federal, State, local, and tribal governments.
The program provides scholarships for cybersecurity undergraduates and graduate students, funded through grants awarded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and managed by the NSF in collaboration with the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).
In return for their scholarships, recipients must agree to work in government after graduation in a position related to cybersecurity at the state, local, tribal, or federal level, for a period equal to the length of the scholarship. WSU’s SFS program was established in January 2025 within the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and the first cohort began in Fall 2025.
The project will train undergraduate and graduate students over five years and provide cybersecurity education, research and experiential learning opportunities, curricular innovation, and career mentoring in six important cybersecurity research areas including artificial intelligence, cyber-physical systems, cryptography and post-quantum security.
Up to 3 years of scholarship support for undergraduate and graduate education including the following: Tuition paid by the program Stipend of $27,000 per year for undergraduate students and $37,000 per year for graduate students Professional allowance of up to $6,000 for travel to the annual SFS Job Fair and other travel, certifications, etc. Access to SFS-specific virtual and in-person job fairs in Washington, D. C.
You must be a citizen or lawful permanent resident of the United States. You must be a full-time student at WSU with an overall GPA of 3.
0 or above and accepted into one of these undergraduate or graduate programs: Undergraduate programs (within 2 years of graduation) BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering and pursuing the coursework requirements of the CySER CAE-CO Fundamentals Certificate Graduate programs (within 3 years of graduation) MS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Electrical Engineering with research focused on cybersecurity and a program of study that includes at least four 400 or 500-level cybersecurity courses PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Electrical Engineering with research focused on cybersecurity and a program of study that includes at least four 400 or 500-level cybersecurity courses You must commit to working for a federal, state, local, or tribal government agency after graduation for as many years as you received scholarship through the CyberCorps SFS program.
Maintain full-time enrollment Maintain good academic standing Respond to requests for information from the SFS Program Office (e.g., surveys, questions regarding program participation) Complete at least one internship opportunity within government and submit documentation to the SFS Program Office Participate in experiential learning opportunities offered through the WSU SFS program Begin searching for employment to meet the post-graduation service commitment Work full-time in a qualifying position at an approved agency or qualifying organization, for a period commensurate with the length of the scholarship and submit documentation to the SFS Program Office Provide documentation to the SFS Program Office and WSU verifying employment annually Ensure contact information is up to date in your SFS profile Complete periodic surveys as requested by the SFS Program Office Respond to all requests from SFS Program Office and WSU for information concerning the SFS program and your status WSU SFS Program Research Areas The project will emphasize training in six interrelated themes: Artificial intelligence and security Cyber-physical systems security Cryptography and post-quantum security Software supply chain security Additional Information and Resources Dr. Gebremedhin receives NSF award for CyberCorps SFS program at WSU.
