Daniel Foundation of Alabama | Strengthening Alabama from Corner-to-Corner Serving Communities Across Alabama The Daniel Foundation of Alabama’s mission is to strengthen communities within Alabama and improve the quality of life for Alabama citizens.
We believe this can be achieved through the support of effective organizations that are focused on building a healthy and well-educated population, living in a vibrant and collaborative community. Rural Initiative will take place throughout the year. These opportunities begin with a LOI submitted in our grants management system.

We are making some changes to help with our internal processes and to better match our opportunities with our resources. The following changes go into effect on February 23, 2026. Rural Opportunities no longer begin with an e-mail.
They will start with an LOI submitted through our online grants management system. Special Projects no longer begin with an e-mail. They will start with an LOI submitted through our online grants management system.
Special Projects are no longer accepted year round. They will follow the calendar presented above and on the Special Projects page. For 2026, Special Projects will not be accepting LOIs from organizations new to Daniel Foundation – those having never been board funded.
See FAQs for more information on “board funded”. All Rural Tier 1 and Tier 2 counties should submit opportunities through the Rural Cycle only. The 17 non-rural counties should choose either Operating Grants or Special Projects, whichever best fits your request.
The Operating Grant and Special Projects Grant opportunities will remain open until July 1, 2026. IMPORTANT – For 2026, we will not be accepting applications from organizations new to Daniel Foundation – those having never been board funded. See FAQs for more information on “board funded”.
Previous grants should be closed and the full grant period expired prior to a new grant opportunity being considered by our board. If you are within a current grant period and have already expended all funds you are welcome to submit your grantee status report prior to the deadline so that all requirements have been met when the grant period expires. Operating and Special Projects are open to receive LOIs through July 1.
These opportunities are for the 17 non-rural counties and for organizations who have been board funded in the past. Operating grants have additional eligibility requirements as outlined on our website and covered in the eligibility quiz in Foundant, our online grant portal. Please review the possible opportunities and submit ONE LOI for the opportunity that best meets the organization’s needs.
Do not submit more than one LOI. Special Projects are for larger requests and, if received, require a two-year sit-out period. If you have a small project request, it may fit best in the operating category since this is essentially a request for unrestricted funding.
If your organization is in one of the 17 non-rural counties but you are doing rural work. The rural opportunity may be best if a request can be submitted with all programming taking place in the Tier 1 and Tier 2 rural counties.
