The David Ellison Charitable Trust - Contestable Grant Applications Find a Grant or Scholarship The David Ellison Charitable Trust - Contestable Grant Applications Contestable Grant Applications This grant round will open annually beginning March, closing middle of April. Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by end of May .
From 2027, the Trust will offer contestable grants at the maximum value of $5,000 per grant. The board has reflected on its granting approach over the past five years and agreed to reduce the maximum grant amount to $5,000 as a pilot, to better align with the Trust’s actual granting practice. This approach will be reviewed in two years’ time.
The Trustee will advertise in appropriate media inviting organisations to make applications for a grant. Applications are to be completed online via ‘Smarty Grants’. The online application allows applicants to input information/answer questions and supporting documentation can be uploaded to support the applications.
Late applications will not be accepted. The Board's primary focus for funding is in the Christchurch / Canterbury region. For accountability the following is required: The name of the Trust and the grant amount is acknowledged in annual accounts and/or as a note to the accounts.
The name of the Trust and grant amount is acknowledged in the annual report. An official receipt to be uploaded to Smarty Grants when the grant funds are received. An accountability report on the completed project or progress on the project within 12 months of receipt of the grant to be uploaded to Smarty Grants.
The accountability report to cover: project budget; project actual costs; and one to two pages on the project (may include, numbers attending/supported, benefit to your clients, success of the project, continuance, what worked and what did not work). The trust aims to have applications open annually in March-April. Applicants will be advised of the outcome by end of May.
