Administered by Mountain BizWorks, a nonprofit community development financial institution (CDFI) that supports small businesses across Western North Carolina, the program is part of the organization's broader Catalyst Fund initiative, which is dedicated to expanding access to funding and leveling the playing field for under-resourced entrepreneurs. To qualify, applicants must meet criteria across two required areas.

The Early-Stage Business criterion requires the business to have either been generating revenue for less than 5 years or have annual gross revenue under $150,000 (only one of these must apply).

The Economic Need criterion requires the owner's household income to be below 80 percent of Area Median Income (AMI), the owner's household net worth to be under $100,000 (excluding primary residence), or the business to be located in a census tract with a poverty rate of 20 percent or higher (only one of these must apply).

Additional caps apply in all cases: owner household income must be below 2x AMI, and household net worth must be under $250,000. The business must be an independently owned, for-profit entity located and operating in Western North Carolina, and applicants must be at least 18 years old. Nonprofit organizations are not eligible, and each applicant may apply for one business only.

Grant funds may be used for qualified business expenses only, including marketing and advertising, business equipment or supplies, technology and software, business systems and operational improvements, and professional services or coaching support.

Grants are awarded at the sole discretion of the Selection Committee based on the strength of the application and any other factors the committee deems relevant, and submitting an application does not guarantee an award.

Recipients are required to submit a brief report 12 months after receiving funds describing the financial condition of the business, how the grant was used, and the number of people impacted, and grantee business names and grant amounts are publicly announced. Grants do not need to be repaid but are taxable, and applications do not roll over between funding rounds.

The Wisconsin Training for Resilient Advanced Industry Needs (WisTRAIN) Grant provides Wisconsin employers with competitive grant funding to deliver employer-driven, occupational skills training focused on advanced manufacturing and artificial intelligence (AI).

Administered by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) and funded through approximately $7 million in federal dollars secured by the Evers Administration via the U.S. Department of Labor's Industry-Driven Skills Training Fund, the program is open to employers of any size operating in Wisconsin.

WisTRAIN supports a broad range of worker training programs, including apprenticeships and pre-apprenticeships, with a focus on equipping the state's workforce with skills aligned to rapidly evolving technologies such as data analytics, cybersecurity, predictive maintenance, and robotics.

Eligible employers must operate in Wisconsin, propose training that supports occupations, technologies, or workforce needs related to advanced manufacturing, AI, or related emerging industries, and commit to employing trainees in Wisconsin-based positions.

The program is part of Governor Evers' broader Workforce Solutions Initiative and aligns with recommendations from the Governor's Task Force on Workforce and Artificial Intelligence, which was established in 2023 to study how AI will transform business, education, and other key sectors of the state economy.

CO Advanced Industries Early-Stage Capital and Retention Grant CO Office of Economic Development The Advanced Industries Early-Stage Capital and Retention Grant helps Colorado-based advanced industries technology businesses develop and commercialize advanced technologies that will be created or manufactured in Colorado. Projects can receive up to $250,000.

This grant award maximum can be lifted for projects that impact more than one advanced industry. The market typically under-invests in early-stage technologies. The grant’s goal is to fill the gap left by the market.

The grant is not meant to compete with existing funding. San Francisco Automatic Dishwashing Grant The San Francisco Environment Department is offering grants of up to $2,500 to help food service businesses lease or purchase an automatic dishwasher, cover minor installation costs, and buy essential dishwashing supplies.

The purpose of this grant is to help San Francisco food service businesses reduce waste by building or expanding their reusable foodware use and systems for on-site dining. Funding is specifically intended to support businesses in transitioning from disposable foodware and to long-term reuse solutions, in alignment with San Francisco’s zero waste goals. Grants are available only until funding runs out.
