Home - Data & evidence to end extreme poverty Poverty changes over time. It affects people differently in different places. It links closely to unpredictable and often interconnected events – conflicts, migration, climate-related disasters.
It’s tied to deep-seated, ever-changing structural factors – discrimination, inequality, lack of infrastructure and public services. So to understand and tackle the root causes of poverty, we can’t stand still. DEEP is a global consortium that brings together leading national and international expertise.
We seek out new, more effective and more accessible ways to collect, analyse and use poverty data and evidence. Together, we work to move closer to a world free from extreme poverty. The DEEP Challenge Fund awards small and medium grants to local researchers working on national poverty reduction.

How can we end extreme poverty? By developing groundbreaking, accessible techniques for data collection and analysis, we support governments and policymakers to identify and reach the people most affected by poverty. Our tools and evidence can help decision-makers identify new and persistent causes of poverty, from climate change to the impact of new technology.
By measuring the impacts of interventions to reduce poverty, we can inspire new solutions globally and be part of a future where understanding of how to eradicate extreme poverty is clearer than it’s ever been. Our work focuses on eight countries across Africa, South and South-East Asia.
