Galaxy Digital Launches $5 Million Bitcoin Quantum Readiness Initiative - Quantum Computing Report Galaxy Digital Launches $5 Million Bitcoin Quantum Readiness Initiative Galaxy Digital Launches $5 Million Bitcoin Quantum Readiness Initiative Digital asset and data center infrastructure firm Galaxy Digital Inc. (Nasdaq: GLXY) has announced the launch of the Galaxy Bitcoin Quantum Readiness Initiative.
The multi-pillar program is designed to prepare the Bitcoin network for long-term security threats posed by advancements in quantum computing. The program focuses on bridging the gap between quantum physics research and decentralized blockchain development, committing direct capital and advisory resources to upgrade Bitcoin’s underlying elliptic curve cryptography (ECDSA) to post-quantum standards.
Addressing Cryptographic Vulnerabilities via Three Pillars Bitcoin’s security model relies on elliptic curve cryptography (Secp256k1). While cryptographically relevant quantum computers (CRQCs) capable of executing Shor’s algorithm do not exist today, the timeline to build one is compressing—highlighted by NIST’s 2024 PQC standardization and federal migration deadlines.
Because protocol-level upgrades across decentralized networks require multi-year consensus, testing, and implementation cycles, Galaxy’s program focuses on immediate technical readiness. The initiative is structured across three primary pillars: Developer Grant Program ($5 Million Pool): Provides non-dilutive, milestone-based grant funding for open-source developers and researchers.
Priority focus areas include reviewing quantum-resistant Bitcoin Improvement Proposals (BIPs), integrating post-quantum signature schemes (such as lattice-based or hash-based signatures), building custodian migration tooling, and conducting formal security audits.
Research & Policy Publishing: Galaxy Research—led by Head of Firmwide Research Alex Thorn —will publish open-access technical analyses to educate institutional investors, miners, custodians, and policymakers on quantum risk mitigation. Quantum Advisory Council: Establishes an expert advisory board to evaluate grant applications, audit proposed consensus changes, and guide research priorities.
Inaugural council members include: Prof. Barry Sanders : Scientific Director of Quantum City at the University of Calgary. Damien Bérubé : MIT Sea Grant Knauss Fellow. Prof. Eran Tromer : Professor of Computer Science at Boston University.
Industry Co-Funding and Open Collaboration Galaxy CEO Mike Novogratz emphasized that protecting decentralized infrastructure requires broad industry participation. The firm is actively encouraging other digital asset institutions, mining pools, and ecosystem stakeholders to join the initiative by co-funding grants and contributing technical research.

The NOURISH Autoimmunity Digital Health Challenge runs three phases to August 2028: 10 winners at $20,000, then 5 at $30,000, then 3 at $100,000. It is a prize competition, not a grant — no indirect costs, no cost reimbursement, and a rule that quietly disqualifies the obvious applicant.

Comments close October 26. NTIA estimates 800 applicants for money that drew 700-plus applications seeking $6.5 billion the first time.
Read articleDARPA-PS-26-04, published February 25, 2026 by the Tactical Technology Office, restructures the contract around three phases — Phase 0 Backbone (6 months), Phase 1 Base (12 months), Phase 2 Option (18 months) — and culminates in an instrumented flight-test campaign. The solicitation is not really about T&E. It is about the digital-twin and uncertainty-quantification middleware DoD needs for any AI-enabled combat system.
