A needed and sometime costly item for many families in DeKalb County. As families began to feel the financial strain from the current COVID-19 pandemic, We Care Pregnancy Clinic saw an unmet need and stepped in to assist. We Care applied for a DeKalb County COVID-19 Response Grant back in April 2020.

From the grant request, they received $2,500 in funding which enabled them to host one of many Diapers for DeKalb distributions. On April 22, the first Diaper distribution event occurred. We Care supplied 46 families with 1,992 diapers, sizes newborn thru 6.

Each family also received information about the Clinic’s ongoing services, education, and material support as well as other sources of support in the county. Moms and dads came from seven cities, with the highest percentage from DeKalb. The next distribution was held on May 8 and a third distribution was planned later that month.

Ongoing needs for We Care Pregnancy Clinic include diapers, wipes, and baby wash. Additional needs include support for the Clinic as they continue to provide free support, education, and assist their clients with housing security and consumable supplies. We Care Pregnancy Clinic is dedicated to providing women who are pregnant, a supportive and compassionate environment to discuss and explore all the options.

They focus on helping clients to make a healthy, informed, and livable choice. Thank you to the many donors whose gifts make grants like these possible! And thank you to the Illinois COVID-19 Response Fund for the multiple grants that boosted the amount we were able to give in response to local needs.

Funding for this grant program is made possible by the DeKalb County COVID-19 Response Fund , a new component pass through Fund created in collaboration with various local funding partners . The Fund’s purpose is to be a depository for contributions intended to respond to the effects of COVID-19 in DeKalb County by distributing grants that address preparedness, response, recovery, and/or rebuilding efforts.
