Ohio EPA offers $2M in grants to replace airport diesel equipment - cleveland. com Advance Local Express Desk CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency is making $2 million available to public airports to replace or repower aging diesel ground support equipment with cleaner alternatives. The grants, funded through the Volkswagen Diesel Mitigation Trust Fund, are available to airports in 26 eligible counties.
Applications are being accepted through Sept. 18 at 3 p. m.
“Ohio’s airports connect people, businesses, and communities every day,” said Ohio EPA Director John Logue. “This funding will help improve air quality, while strengthening the infrastructure Ohio depends on. ” The trust fund was established after Volkswagen admitted to using illegal emissions-control devices in certain diesel vehicles.
States received allocations based on the number of affected vehicles registered within their borders. Over the past decade, the trust has provided approximately $65 million in Ohio to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions through cleaner transportation technologies.
Past projects have included replacing diesel trucks, school and transit buses, ferries, locomotives, forklifts and cargo-handling equipment, as well as deploying electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Ohio EPA will host a free informational webinar at 1:30 p. m.
Aug. 12 to guide prospective applicants through the grant process. No registration is required.
