What are DigitalOcean Open Source Credits? Open source is about helping everyone do more, better and we're proud to support it.
Towards that purpose, DigitalOcean offers grants of credits to open source projects to help with their development, infrastructure, and testing needs. We strongly believe in giving back to the open source ecosystem we participate in and depend on. Who do we support with credits?

Why does DigitalOcean offer open source credits? We want to give back to the open source ecosystem we participate in and depend on. What are the grants for and how long do they last?
Grants are for credit towards DigitalOcean cloud computing services including virtual machines, cloud storage, managed databases, App Platform, and managed Kubernetes. Each grant is based on the individual needs of the project and which tier you apply for. Grants are awarded for one year.
Applicants will need to re-apply each year if they want to renew their credit grant. What open source projects are eligible to apply? Any open source project with an OSI-approved license that meets our Grant Tier Criteria is eligible to apply.
What if my project doesn't have an OSI-approved license? Review the different types of OSI-approved licenses . If you haven't adopted one of these yet, you may not be quite ready for sponsorship.

How do I apply? Fill out and submit the application form . When will I be notified of the decision on my application?
We review all applications and notify applicants of our decisions within 7-10 business days. Will I be notified when it's time to renew? Yes.
You will begin to receive email reminder notifications beginning 65 days prior to the expiry of your grant. You may submit a renewal request for credit sponsorship via the application form . Am I guaranteed to be renewed if I've received support in the past?
No. All applications are subject to our review and approval process. You will be asked to fill out the Credits for Open Source Application each time you renew. If the project renewal is declined you will be informed before your grant runs out.
It is helpful for us to understand why you need the renewal, and if you have new or different usage needs. You will be prompted to answer those questions when you fill out the Application. You might also be interested in Open source projects power many of our libraries and frameworks.
