Disaster Relief Fund is sponsored by United Way of Putnam County. The Putnam County Disaster Relief Fund provides direct financial assistance to individuals and families in the community facing the devastating effects of natural disasters.

Our Impact — Putnam County United Way of the United Way of Putnam County The United Way of Putnam County plays a vital role in strengthening our community by connecting local partners, donors, volunteers, and leaders to address the most pressing challenges we face. Unlike global initiatives, our focus is local—ensuring that donations stays within Putnam County to support a network of nonprofit agencies working to improve lives.

By mobilizing our community, we are making a lasting impact, fostering opportunities, and building a brighter future for everyone in Putnam County. Donations to the United Way of Putnam County are utilized in two impactful ways: Imagination Library Program which serves on average 1,330 children per month.

This program plays a crucial role in fostering early childhood literacy by providing free, high-quality books to children from birth to age five. The Imagination Library bridges gaps in access to books, ensuring all children—regardless of income—have the opportunity to develop a strong foundation for lifelong learning.

Back To School Assistance Program which served 396 students in 2025 is a program that provides backpacks and supplemental school supplies to income eligible students. Education Resource Bank is a vital initiative that ensures children in need have access to essential school supplies throughout the academic year.

By partnering with local school administrators and child protective agencies, we identify students facing financial hardship and provide them with the tools necessary for success—backpacks, notebooks, pencils, and other critical resources. This program helps remove barriers to learning, boosts student confidence, and supports academic achievement.

By working together with our community partners, we strive to create a level playing field where every child has the opportunity to thrive in the classroom. Partner Agencies : Your donations also empower local nonprofits by providing funding for specific programs. These Partner Agencies apply for grants to support their vital work, whether it's offering health services, educational programs, or other community-focused initiatives.

By funding these programs, your donations help sustain a network of organizations dedicated to improving the quality of life in Putnam County.

Our 2025 grant cycle provided funding for the following: Cancer Assistance Program Disaster Services and Preparedness Education Emergency Prescription Assistance Girl Leadership Experience Scouting and Youth Development Open Door Program and Second-Grade Safety Swim Senior Wellness & Lifestyle Enrichment Therapeutic Riding and Equine Intervention Victim Assistance & Advocacy
