4M to nonprofits to help improve the quality of life for underserved women and families in Anne Arundel County since the founding of our giving circle in 2006 . And the total annual grants have grown from $39,881 in 2007 to $262,913 in 2026. Congratulations to the 13 nonprofits that received a 2026 grant award.

This year’s 62-member Grants Committee was challenged with the task of thoughtfully considering a record number of worthy proposals from local nonprofits. Thanks to contributions from our 410+ members, we were able to award grants totaling $262,913 — the largest annual amount in our history.

Anne Arundel County Public Library Foundation, Inc. $18,000 for Discoveries Pantry: Essential Diaper, Menstrual, and Hygiene Support for Women and Families — To help more than 4,500 women and their families meet basic needs: diapers, menstrual products, and hygiene supplies that make daily life possible. These essentials keep children cared for, help caregivers work, and support women's health. https://www.

Assistance League of the Chesapeake: Kids In Need $4,998 The grant will go toward the Kids In Need Program for Tyler Heights Elementary School. Students will receive the required school uniform of a polo shirt, khaki pants and a sweatshirt plus socks and underwear. The grant will assist bilingual families in the Strengthening Families Program, an evidence-based program that teaches parenting skills and strengthens family bonds.

Charting Careers: Mentoring, College and Career Readiness and Family Partnership Program $20,000 The grant will go toward operating expenses for this program, specifically to help fund salaries for the mentor coordinator, education coordinator, scholar and family support specialist and executive director.

Community Alliance of South County: Summer Overnight Camp Scholarships $6,125 This grant will fund summer overnight camp scholarships for ten low-income children and follow-up. Follow-up includes monthly meetings to reinforce social and learning skills. Co-op Arundel: My Sistah’s Keeper Program $20,000 This program is designed to give women the tools and skills to identify and reach their goals.

The grant will go toward operating expenses. Marshall Hope Corporation: Food Pantry and Learning Center $20,000 The grant will be used to purchase diapers, formula and feminine pads for the food pantry, plus supplies for the Marshall Hope Learning Center. The grant will also be used to offset administration costs.

Providence Center: Support for Women with Intellectual Disabillities - $8,064 This program provides consent, healthy relationship and abuse prevention training for women with intellectual and developmental disabilities. STAIR-Annapolis: Start the Adventure in Reading $20,000 Funds will go toward the purchase of books, lesson plans and take-home books for students.

Funds will also be used to cover a portion of staff salaries and other operating expenses. Tahirih Justice Center: Legal and Social Services $20,000 The grant will be used to provide trauma-informed legal and social services support to immigrant survivors of gender-based violence. The grant will also be used to help build community capacity in our county to serve this population.

We Care and Friends: Women-empowerment Program - $20,000 This program trains and counsels women to become self-reliant entrepreneurs and business leaders with mentors and resources. This grant cycle runs from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023.

Co-op Arundel: My Sistah’s Keeper $20,000 An 8-week program that pairs 15 women with low incomes with a mentor to address topics such as financial literacy, life skills, goal setting and self-introspection. Marshall Hope Corporation: W.

Annapolis Pop-Up Pantry $10,000 Creation of a newborn and toddler pantry with diapers, wipes, bottles, formula and other necessities, Spanish-speaking volunteers provide other needed information to those who visit the pantry.

Annapolis Immigration Justice Network: Legal Assistance Project $20,000 Provides legal and case manager representation and related services to immigrant children as they face the challenging path to remain in this country.

Anne Arundel County CASA, Inc.: For Abused and Neglected Children in Foster Care $20,000 To advocate for abused and neglected foster children to support their transition from the court system to a safe and stable home. Anne Arundel County Food Bank: Expand/Stock Baby Pantries $8,496 To expand and stock baby pantries, adding facilities in Brooklyn Park, Laurel and Glen Burnie.

(Due to tremendous need, we continued last year’s practice of allocating all remaining dollars available in the Grant fund.) Charting Careers: Mentoring, College & Career Readiness $20,000 Breaking the cycle of poverty and inequity for African American and Latino youth in Annapolis with a mentor-focused approach that begins with tutoring in reading and continues in later years with college and career guidance.

Hope for All: Turning Houses into Homes $20,000 Provides beds, furniture, clothing, personal hygiene products and other household items to 100 homeless women and children as they transition to permanent housing. Rebuilding Together: Urgent Home & Critical Repairs - $20,000 Works to keep low-income homeowners, largely women, in their homes by providing home repairs, thereby preventing homelessness and foreclosures.

Our grant will renovate 14 homes. This grant cycle runs from July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022. Newtowne Community Development Corporation: From Surviving to Thriving - $10,000 Provides case management and mentoring services to at least 10 single mothers in Woodside Gardens Apartments, a low-income housing complex in Annapolis helping them change behaviors so they can become effective persons and parents and move away from poverty.

Annapolis Immigration Justice Network: Legal Fund/Family Preservation Project - $20,000 Provides legal services, guidance, accompaniment, translation services and referrals to non-legal assistance to immigrants as they navigate the complex immigration process.

Anne Arundel County (AAC) Food Bank, Inc.: Baby Pantries - $10,000 Improve and expand AAC Food Bank baby pantries which provide baby food, formula, diapers, wipes and other essential items to low-income parents/guardians in Anne Arundel County. www. aafoodbank.

org Chrysalis House, Inc.: Training for Child Development Staff - $6,330 Gives the children in their care the best possible start in life, through a structured, nurturing environment, which will help break the generational cycle of addiction, crime and poverty. www. chrysalishouses.

org HOPE For All, Inc.: Turning Houses into Homes - $19,978 Provides basic goods to AAC women and families in need so they can establish healthy homes and lives after homelessness and crises.

The Light House, Inc.: Family Assistance Program: $20,000 Supports a comprehensive program for homeless families, families at risk of homelessness and homeless individuals working to reconnect with their children to promote long-term self-sufficiency.

Seeds 4 Success: Student Health and Wellness Initiative - $20,000 Increase S4S students’ use of their health insurance and access to primary care providers as a preventative measure and move them away from using only the ER.

Services from the Heart: Backpack Buddies Program/Food Backpacks - $10,000 Provides weekly food backpacks to 100 economically disadvantaged children in the FARM (Free and Reduced Meals) programs in Anne Arundel County at three Title I schools.

Touchstones Discussion Project: Expanding Women’s Life and Leadership Skills for Post-Incarceration Success - $20,000 Delivers 42 weeks of discussion-based educational programming for 200 women at the Maryland Correctional Institution for Women (MCI-W) in Anne Arundel County. Develops improved life and work skills, promotes healthy decision-making and parenting skills and reduces recidivism.

This grant cycle runs from July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021. Momentum Grant—Two-year grant for $20,000 each year STAIR–Annapolis: Start The Adventure In Reading - $20,000/$20,000 Providing cost-free tutoring for second graders in low-income areas so that 75% of them are reading at or above grade level by school-year’s end.

A summer Reader’s Theater program for 6-to-12-year-old children that is designed to maintain skills operates at two community centers. In 2019, STAIR plans to increase the number served from 78 children to 90 to 100 at 12 sites. This is the second year of this grant.

Creating Communities: Youth Programs - $20,000 Offering arts experiences for 850 low-income children after school and in the summer and supporting teachers to add more art approaches for their students.

Four programs will be partially funded — (1) Arts Mentorship Academy; (2) Arts Ambassadors for students from Georgetown East Elementary School; (3) Tuesday Afternoon Learning Experience (TALE) and Wednesday After-School Arts Club; and (4) In-School Residencies to allow artists to collaborate with teachers in public schools county-wide.

Light House, Inc.: Family Assistance Program - $20,000 Providing emergency shelter, transitional housing and education for 18-26 adults as they rebuild their lives with compassion as they move toward employment and self-sufficiency. Assistance is focused on effective parenting, financial literacy, employment readiness and counseling is also offered as necessary.

Organization of Hispanic/Latin Americans of Anne Arundel County: Bridge the Gap - $5,000 Partially funding an office manager position to supervise volunteers. This office provides pro-bono services to help Hispanic immigrants as they apply for various programs (such as food stamps and medical care) and with various legal issues (such as landlord-tenant issues). Translation services are also offered.

Rebuilding Together Anne Arundel County, Inc.: Urgent Home Renovations for Women and Children in Anne Arundel County - $20,000 Providing free home repairs for single low-income elderly women so that they can remain safely in their homes and communities. Our last $20,00 grant to Rebuilding Together made it possible to complete $143,000 worth of repairs.

Tahirih Justice Center: Protecting Courageous Immigrant Women and Girls Fleeing Violence - $7,778 Offering social and legal services for immigrant Anne Arundel County survivors who have fled or been a victim of domestic violence. The Center is headquartered in Baltimore; transportation may also be provided when necessary.

Touchstone Discussion Project: Building Women’s Life and Leadership Skills for Post-Incarceration Success - $20,000 Delivering 42 weeks of discussion-based educational programming for 200 women incarcerated in the Maryland Correctional Institute for Women in Anne Arundel County. Program develops life and work skills and promotes healthy decision-making and parenting that reduce recidivism.

This grant cycle runs from July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020. The Grant Voting Meeting on May 9 selected six 2018 Grantees as described below. The total amount of grants to be awarded though the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County is $105,136.

The Grantees included the first two-year Momentum Grant to STAIR-Annapolis for $20,000 for Year One and an additional $20,000 for Year Two to be awarded upon successful progress toward program/project objectives.

Momentum Grant—Two-year grant for $20,000 each year STAIR–Annapolis: Start The Adventure In Reading - $20,000/$20,000 STAIR will provide cost-free tutoring for second graders in low-income areas so that 75% of them are reading at or above grade level by school-year’s end. A summer Reader’s Theater program for 6-to-12-year-old children that is designed to maintain skills operates at two community centers.

In 2019, STAIR will increase the number served from 78 children to 90 to 100 at 9-10 sites. Anne Arundel County CASA: Court-Appointed Special Advocates - $20,000 CASA serves children who have been abused/neglected and adjudicated as CINA (Child in Need of Assistance). AAWGT funding will allow CASA to increase capacity to serve 25-30 new children in the foster care system who would otherwise not receive a CASA.

Anne Arundel County Public Library Foundation: Laptop Lab and WiFi Bar at Brooklyn Park Branch - $10,136 This award will create a Laptop Lab and WiFi Bar at the AACo Public Library’s Brooklyn Park Branch to contribute to the digital inclusion of all community members and support the newly created Community Teen Drop-In Center at the branch, as well as other learning and enrichment classes.

Arundel Child Care Connections: Mujeros Surgiendo-Women on the Rise - $20,000 The grant will provide training and support for 10 Hispanic women, all high school graduates, wishing to obtain certification as Child Development Associates which will enable them to qualify for employment in child care centers or as licensed child care providers.

Associated Catholic Charities: Sarah’s House - $15,000 AAWGT funds will provide classes, training and certification fee support to up to 25 adults transitioning out of homelessness while their children are enrolled in on-site child care. Classes include parenting, relationship building and goal setting. Training and certifications offered include phlebotomy, CNA and Nail Tech.

Seeds 4 Success: Academic and Career Exploration Club - $20,000 Seeds 4 Success is expanding the focus of its free program for low-income high school students. A three-track program offers trade school and military options, as well as the original emphasis on preparation for college. Visits to two- and four-year colleges are arranged, and Driver’s Ed is provided.

Financial planning and stress management are also taught. This grant cycle runs from July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019. Anne Arundel County CASA, Inc.; Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) - $20,000 CASA provides dedicated volunteers to advocate for and support abused and neglected children who are involved in juvenile court proceedings to ensure their right to permanent, safe and stable homes.

Anne Arundel Community Action Agency; Green Summer Works - $10,000 The Green Summer Works Program provides low-income high school students with paid summer jobs while also participating in mentoring sessions that teach workplace skills, financial literacy, team problem-solving and goal setting. Arundel Lodge, Inc.; Go GRRLS: Empowerment and Resilience Program for Teenage Girls - $5,977.

68 This is a new program for teen girls using the GO GRRRLS curriculum, a nationally known program. It will provide empowerment and resilience training, plus positive peer support with female therapists addressing social, emotional and mental health needs. Creating Communities: Arts Education for Elementary and Middle School Students - $5.

001. 31 Creating Communities runs after-school programs that use the power of music, art and movement to reach low income learners who need more than conventional modalities of learning. They bring arts education to youth where they live.

He Opens Paths to Everyone, Inc. (HOPE for All); Transitioning Homeless Women and Children into Healthy Homes - $20,000 This program uniquely provides necessities at no cost to homeless women and children who don’t have the resources to furnish a home as they transition from a shelter into permanent housing and reintegrate into our communities.

Planned Parenthood; Women’s Cancer Prevention Program Services - $20,000 This project’s goal is to help low-income women reduce the incidence of breast and cervical cancer by providing breast health and wellness exams, Pap tests, pregnancy tests, STD tests, and treatment and vaccines.

STAIR - Annapolis; Start The Adventure in Reading - $10,750 STAIR’s goal is to increase the reading level and sense of self-esteem and self-confidence in second graders through early intervention tutoring in reading. Participants are primarily low-income and minority and all the tutors are volunteers.

YWCA; Crisis Intervention and Case Management for Victims of Crime - $20,000 This project provides case management and crisis intervention services to women and children residing at the Y’s Domestic Violence Shelter. This includes hospital accompaniment for rape victims, goal setting and connection to therapy, housing and employment opportunities. This grant cycle runs from July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018.

The Grant Voting Meeting was held on May 11 to make the final selection of eight 2016 Grantees as described below. The total amount of grants to be awarded though the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County is $100,548. Presented here are the names of the organizations followed by the Program name, then a brief description of what our funds will support.

Anne Arundel County CASA, Inc.; Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) - $15,000 CASA’s mission is to provide a dedicated advocate to speak in the best interest of children who have been abused or neglected, in court and in the community. 20-25 additional children will receive a CASA volunteer with AAWGT funding.

Anne Arundel Community Action Agency; Green Summer Works - $10,000 The Green Summer Works Program provides low-income high school students an economic opportunity by combining paid work experience with comprehensive work force preparation, life skills education, and financial literacy training. 20 students will be placed in paid summer jobs in a variety of environmental organizations with AAWGT funding.

Arundel House of Hope (AHOH); The Family Project - $15,000 The Family Project identifies homeless families (specifically women and children), provides them with appropriate individual housing, and teaches them the skills needed for self-sufficiency that they can use and pass on to future generations. AAWGT funding will cover partial salaries of the Program Manager and Program Case Manager who provide counseling to the families.

Arundel Lodge, Inc.; Marcus Youth and Family Center (MYFC) at Arundel Lodge – Interpreters - $15,000 Arundel Lodge’s mission is improving the lives of children, adults and families with mental health and substance use disorders. AAWGT will be helping to increase access to mental health treatment services for 34 Hispanic children and their families in the Marcus Youth and Family Center at Arundel Lodge through the aid of interpreters.

He Opens Paths to Everyone, Inc. (HOPE); Transitioning Homeless Women & Children into Healthy Homes - $14,923 This program uniquely provides essential healthy beds, basic furniture, clothing, personal hygiene products and household items at no cost to transitioning women and families (700+ adults and children annually) as they re-integrate into our communities.

AAWGT funding will support partial salary of the Driver and Warehouse Assistants, and rental of warehouse and equipment for 2 months.

Light House, Inc.; Family Assistance Program - $15,000 The Family Assistance Program provides support for homeless parents and children that includes case management; employment assistance, child care, and transportation; direct financial assistance for medical needs; school support for children including summer camps and field trips; and infant needs. 11 parents and 29 children will benefit from AAWGT funding.

Services from the Heart; Backpack Buddies Program - $5,625 This program provides weekly backpacks of food over weekend and extended school breaks to economically disadvantaged children attending three Title 1 schools: Eastport, Hilltop and Belle Grove Elementary Schools. AAWGT funding goes directly to food and will support 75 children for 10 weeks.

YWCA; Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Play Therapy Services - $10,000 The YWCA is creating a Therapeutic Playroom to promote healing of children ages 3-12 who have witnessed domestic violence or endured abuse. The program provides Child-Centered Play Therapy Techniques. AAWGT funding will support the partial salary of a licensed therapist, therapeutic materials and other program costs.

This grant cycle runs from July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017. Anne Arundel Community Action Agency: Green Summer Works $10,000 to provide low-income students with paid work experience at environmental organizations and mentoring in workplace skills, financial literacy, and setting goals for success in school and future careers.

Anne Arundel County Mental Health Agency: Youth Suicide Awareness Action Team $15,000 to expand a piloted class on youth suicide to eight new schools, teaching students the QPR protocol (Question, Persuade, Respond) so they can be the bridge between young suicide victims and critical support services.

Anne Arundel County Food Bank: Back Pack Buddies $10,000 to expand weekend meals to an additional 250 food insecure children through 26 back pack buddies programs run by schools and churches in the county.

Anne Arundel County Public Library Foundation: Creating a Family Literacy Center $15,000 to create a “Play and Read” space at the Severn Community Library, providing multi-sensory activities of talking, singing, writing and reading which are key to developing early literacy skills.

Center of Help: Homework Help and Leadership Development $6,000 to provide academic support and math and English tutoring for Hispanic students as well as field trips and other activities to broaden their exposure to American culture and foster integration into the community.

Food Link: Emergency Baby Pantries $15,000 to support nine baby pantries which provide indispensable diapers, formula, and hygiene products to mothers facing an emergency (job loss, abuse, homelessness). He Opens Paths to Everyone (H. O.

P. E. for All): Transitioning Homeless Families $4,505 (partial funding) to create a stable and healthy home atmosphere for women and children as they transition from a shelter into permanent housing, by providing healthy beds, basic furniture, household items and school supplies.

Rebuilding Together: Women Homeowner Renovations $15,000 to avoid homelessness or foreclosure for low income women homeowners by providing necessary (and often substantial) home repairs to keep them safe, dry, warm and independent in their own homes.

The Light House: Family Assistance Program $15,000 to support a range of services including counseling; real-work job training in culinary arts or facilities maintenance; and support for children through tutoring, summer camp and enrichment activities. This grant cycle runs from July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016.

Anne Arundel County Mental Health Agency: Youth Suicide Awareness - $14,000 to support training for parents, teachers, professional and emergency responders to increase identification of and intervention for suicidal youth and reduce suicide losses.

Center of Help: Homework Help and Leadership Program - $5,000 to expand a program that provides Hispanic students with math and English tutoring, homework help, and participation in activities to foster integration into the community. Food Link: Wholesale Charitable Produce Distribution - $15,000 to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables to be distributed free to those in need through a variety of participating charitable organizations.

Light House: Family Case Management - $15,000 to fund staff to act as navigator and advocate for necessary services that help stabilize and preserve families living together in homelessness or reunite separated homeless families. Partners in Care: Member Care - $15,000 to support the management and provision of transportation, home repair and other services to elderly people allowing them to stay in their own homes.

Planned Parenthood of Maryland: Clinical Services for Women in AA County - $15,000 to provide free access to a wide-range of well-woman services and reproductive health care for women unable to afford any co-pay. YWCA of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County - $14,715 to provide therapeutic services for women and children who are victims of sexual assault and domestic violence.

This grant would enable necessary services to be provided for all clients within 48 hours. In addition, AAWGT won CFAAC’s Great Give Award for the most participants in a given category of donors. As a result, AAWGT was given $2,000 to award to an Anne Arundel County nonprofit of our choosing who participated in the Great Give.

At our May membership meeting, this unrestricted $2,000 was awarded to the YWCA of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County. Anne Arundel County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA Program) – $15,000 to supplement staffing for the program that trains volunteers who provide support and advocacy for abused or neglected children in the court system.

The Anne Arundel County Public Library: Family Literacy Center - $15,000 to purchase interactive educational tiles (that can be rotated to other libraries), a craft reading bench and a puppet theater, for use by children in the Brooklyn Park Branch Library, which will provide a safe, stimulating environment for children and families and become a pivotal center for community life.

Anne Arundel County Mental Health Agency: Youth Suicide Awareness - $13,000 to be used for training individuals in the “Question, Persuade, Refer” program which teaches people to identify potential suicide victims, talk to a person in crisis and get them immediately to a mental health professional.

Associated Catholic Charities/Sarah’s House: Focus In: Life Experience - $15,000 for salary of the coordinator of a program targeting teenagers who live at Sarah’s House. The program will focus on their emotional, self-development, intellectual enrichment, personal and academic goal settings.

Creating Communities: Arts Mentorship Academy - $7,682 for staff and supplies for it’s Art Mentorship Academy, an arts-based alternative education opportunity through instruction, mentoring and experiential learning for children 8 – 17 from low income families at no charge. Food Link: Wholesale Food Distribution - $15,000 for staff salary, transportation expenses and gleaned foods(apples, pears, sweet potatoes).
