Build Your Future With SMART Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) is a DoW Scholarship Program for STEM Students ## Explore the SMART Program and Eligibility The SMART Scholarship-for-Service Program is a unique opportunity for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) students to advance their education and jumpstart their careers.
SMART provides merit-based scholarships to bachelor's, master's, and doctoral students pursuing STEM degrees. SMART scholarship recipients receive full tuition, annual stipends, summer internships, and after graduation, civilian employment with the Department of War. Applications are open annually from August 1 to the first Friday in December.

Scholarship recipients receive hands-on experience at one of over 150 Department of War facilities during their internships and apply this knowledge as early career professionals. Department of War facilities are at the forefront of innovation in artificial intelligence, biotechnology, autonomy, space, 5G, and other technology areas.
