## Neural mechanisms of social competence > 'Social competence is a critical ability for social animals, enabling individuals to optimise their behaviour in response to their social environment. Supported by the grant from the Dobberke Foundation, we will uncover the neural mechanisms underlying this fundamental ability, using the highly social fish Neolamprologus pulcher as a model system.'
Animal behaviour, including behavioural biology, psychology University graduates, PhD-candidates and researchers with a PhD degree who work at (or are affiliated with) a university or research institute in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The Dr. J. L.
Dobberke Foundation endorses the KNAW’s sustainability policy in making its grants. The Foundation therefore asks applicants, where possible, to choose environmentally friendly modes of transport instead of air travel. Please refer tothe KNAW’s sustainable travel decision tree (PDF).
The Foundation also encourages applicants to make sustainable choices, where possible, in carrying out the activities for which funding is requested, for example with regard to the use of materials, catering and communication. ## About the Dr. J. L.
Dobberke Foundation The Dr. J. L. Dobberke Foundation is an independent foundation with its own assets and responsibility for their use.
The Foundation has entrusted its assets to the KNAW for asset management, ensuring that they are managed professionally and that the foundation can continue to achieve its objectives over the long term. At the Foundation’s request, the KNAW also provides support with the application, evaluation, and award process for the annual call for proposals seeking financial contributions from the Foundation (the Dobberke Grant).
