DTE Foundation Commits $300,000 to Address Rising Food Insecurity Across Michigan | DTE Energy DTE Foundation Commits $300,000 to Address Rising Food Insecurity Across Michigan Support aims to meet the growing demand for meals amid persistent economic challenges DETROIT, Nov.
20, 2025 – The DTE Foundation announced today a $300,000 commitment to support food programs across Michigan, responding to both the recent disruption in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits and a continued surge in food insecurity statewide.
The funding will be distributed among key partners serving communities throughout DTE’s service territory, including Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, Food Gatherers, Forgotten Harvest, Gleaners Community Food Bank, United Way and Feeding America West Michigan. These organizations will use the support to provide nutritious meals and expand distribution efforts for families facing hunger.
“Families across Michigan continue to face real challenges putting food on the table,” said Rodney Cole, president, DTE Foundation. “We’re proud to stand alongside our partners to make sure nutritious meals reach those who need them most. This is about caring for our neighbors and strengthening the communities where we live and serve.
” Michigan food banks report that demand for assistance remains significantly higher than pre-pandemic levels. This donation will help stock pantry shelves, deliver food to seniors and individuals with disabilities, and provide essential nutrition for children and families. "Our fondest memories, strongest traditions and most heartfelt celebrations often have one thing in common: the meals we share with one another.
When we come together to solve hunger, the investments we make in our neighbors lift up the whole community, not just the people we’re helping,” said Gerry Brisson, president and CEO, Gleaners. “We’re grateful for partners like the DTE Energy Foundation, whose support will feed families today and tomorrow, creating lasting impact for our communities.
” “Although the shutdown has ended, the impact is still being felt by households across our community,” said Dr. Darienne Hudson, President and CEO, United Way for Southeastern Michigan.
“With the support of amazing partners like the DTE Foundation, United Way’s Every Family Fed Fund will help ensure those who have been harmed by the disruption in critical nutrition programs like SNAP, which serves one in four Michigan children, can continue to put food on the table. We are grateful for all our donors and community partners like DTE who have answered the call and amplified their giving in this time of incredible need.
” This investment amplifies the DTE Foundation’s reach across Michigan, ensuring families in every corner of the state – from the Upper Peninsula to Southeast Michigan and beyond – have access to nutritious food. Year-to-date in 2025, the DTE Foundation has committed $1,062,000 to 39 organizations fighting food insecurity, demonstrating its unwavering dedication to building a healthier, more resilient Michigan for all.
