Early Childhood Development Initiative (Invitation Only) is sponsored by Silicon Valley Community Foundation. The Early Childhood Development strategic initiative aims to ensure all Silicon Valley children have equitable access to high-quality early care and education. SVCF employs various strategies, including grantmaking, to strengthen the early childhood system.

Early Childhood Initiatives | Silicon Valley Community Foundation Early Childhood Initiatives Strengthening Early Childhood Opportunities The benefits of inclusive, high-quality early childhood care and learning are well documented for children, families and the economy. Early experiences have lasting impacts on a child’s cognitive and social development, building the foundation for future success.

We envision a child care system that supports young children, families, and caregivers, particularly those from communities most impacted by systemic disparities, to achieve their full potential and build a solid foundation for the future. We believe in a system that: Provides Access : Children in our valley have equitable access to early care and learning opportunities that meet their unique needs.

Ensures Choice : Families can choose the culturally affirming, quality option that meets their needs and are not required to pay more than 7% of their income on child care. Values Quality : Members of the early care workforce are well prepared and receive fair compensation for their essential work.

The Early Childhood initiative employs different strategies to strengthen the early childhood system in Silicon Valley, using a variety of tools including grantmaking, research, collaboration, policy advocacy, and convening. Event recap: "Driving Innovative Solutions for Childcare" On April 5, 2024, Silicon Valley Community Foundation and a group of government and business leaders convened on Genentech’s campus to discuss the importance of affordable and accessible childcare in San Mateo County.

The goal? To broaden the support base and engage the local business community in crafting solutions to our region’s childcare crisis.
