EDA’s mission is to lead the Federal economic development agenda by promoting innovation and competitiveness, and preparing American regions for growth and success in the worldwide economy. EDA solicits applications under the authority of its Economic Adjustment Assistance (EAA) program.
The EAA program is intended to be flexible and responsive to the economic development needs and priorities of local and regional stakeholders, including those seeking assistance recovering from Federally declared disasters.
## **Funding for Natural Disasters in 2023 and 2024** Through the **FY 2025 EDA Disaster Supplemental NOFO**, EDA will award grants in regions experiencing severe economic distress or other economic harm resulting from hurricanes, wildfires, severe storms and flooding, tornadoes, and other natural disasters occurring in calendar years 2023 and 2024.
This funding opportunity encourages broad-based local engagement and places special emphasis on projects that involve private industry in disaster recovery and economic renewal to ensure the maximum impact for taxpayer funding to support these communities. Applicants can choose from three funding pathways – Readiness, Implementation, or Industry Transformation - based on their recovery stage, capacity, and long-term development vision.
## Funding for Natural Disasters in 2021 and 2022 ## Funding for Natural Disasters in 2018 and Floods and Tornados in 2019 In June 2019, Congress passed theAdditional Supplemental Appropriations for Disaster Relief Act, 2019.
The Act provided EDA with $600 million in additional Economic Adjustment Assistance (EAA) Program funds for necessary expenses related to flood mitigation, disaster relief, long-term recovery, and restoration of infrastructure in areas that received a major disaster designation in calendar year 2018, and tornadoes and floods occurring in calendar year 2019 under the Robert T. Stafford Act.
EDA has made**$587 million of supplemental appropriations available for grant investments**to regions located in, or serving, one or more communities impacted by Hurricanes Florence, Michael, and Lane, Typhoons Yutu and Mangkhut, and of wildfires, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and other natural disasters occurring in calendar year 2018, and tornadoes and floods occurring in calendar year 2019.
