The Northern Virginia Educating Youth through Employment (EYE) program provides youth throughout Northern Virginia between the ages of 16-24 with a paid summer work experience to build workplace skills, explore areas of interest, and prepare youth for future work opportunities. The goal is to place youth participants in a field that aligns with their career goals.
SkillSource , in coordination with Fairfax County’s Department of Family Services, has successfully implemented this employer-driven summer employment initiative since 2006. The Northern Virginia Educating Youth through Employment (EYE) Program is a six-week summer initiative that recruits, screens and matches youth ages 16-24 with professional job opportunities. • Build a pipeline of young talent.
• Give back to the community by mentoring the rising workforce. • Youth participants receive individualized support from EYE Counselors Contact DFSEYE@fairfaxcounty. gov if you are interested in supporting a youth work experience.
Support the Emerging Workforce by Becoming an EYE Worksite EYE is seeking positive and supportive sites for EYE youth to learn valuable workplace skills and increase their future employability at no cost to the employer! EYE work experiences run from July to August for 20-30 hours per week (must be daytime hours on weekdays).
If you are an employer and interested in hosting a youth at your worksite, please submit the worksite agreement electronically using the following link EYE- Employer Worksite Agreement . Engagement and Sponsoring Organizations EYE Youth will participate in interactive and engaging workshops to prepare them for employment and provide an introduction to career exploration.
Youth then will complete a paid work experience in a career field that matches their interests. Throughout the program, EYE counselors work with youth to provide support as needed. Youth are selected to participate in EYE by sponsoring organizations.
The current sponsoring organizations are: Fairfax County Neighborhood Community Service, Fairfax County Children Youth and Family, Kaiser Permanente, the Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services, and the Northern Virginia Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Youth Program.
Youth must meet the following criteria: • Between the ages of 16-24 • Actively participating in services through the referring organization • Legally eligible to work in the United States • Expressed interest in finding employment and participating with EYE • Be available to participate from mid-June to mid-August, work a minimum of 20 hours per week, and attend all trainings, and work experience.
