Established in 1944 by Gösta Videgård, the foundation focuses on preventive health approaches rather than symptom-based care. It supports research in organic agriculture, food quality, nutrition, lifestyle-related health, and complementary or natural medicine.
Over the past decades, Ekhagastiftelsen has funded hundreds of projects that promote healthier food systems, sustainable living, and nature-based healing methods, contributing significantly to evidence-based public health innovation. The Ekhagastiftelsen Grant 2026 supports applied and strategic research that promotes disease prevention through healthier food, sustainable agriculture, nutrition, and natural or complementary medicine.
The grant prioritises innovative, pilot-stage, and participatory research with real-world relevance. Projects may include organic food production methods, food quality and storage, diet-related health research, lifestyle interventions, and integrative medicine approaches.
Limited support may also be provided for knowledge dissemination activities such as workshops, conferences, planning grants, and documentation projects, provided they align closely with the foundation’s public health and preventive care objectives. Applications are open to researchers, academic institutions, and eligible organisations conducting scientific research aligned with the foundation’s focus areas.
The primary emphasis is on applied research, although basic research may be supported if it demonstrates clear relevance to public health outcomes. Participatory research involving collaboration between practitioners, farmers, or communities and scientists is encouraged. Scholarships may be awarded only for research-related purposes.
The foundation does not fund basic university education, aid projects, or initiatives focused solely on societal development or training without a research component. Applicants must submit a complete application through the foundation’s application system. This includes general project information and a detailed project description prepared according to the prescribed guidelines.
Planning grants and meeting proposals must clearly demonstrate relevance to the foundation’s objectives. All submissions are assessed based on innovation, strategic value, and alignment with preventive public health goals. Applications for the Ekhagastiftelsen Grant 2026 must be submitted by 20 May 2026, in accordance with the foundation’s annual grant cycle.
