Emergency Housing Assistance

Emergency Housing Assistance is sponsored by Community Action Agencies (CAP). Many Community Action Agencies (CAP) provide one-time emergency housing assistance grants to support families in crisis, helping with rent and other housing-related needs.

CAP | Community Action Partnership of Scott, Carver, Dakota Counties » Safe & Stable Housing Where a person lives is more than just their house or apartment – it’s their home and their place in the community. Housing Services helps people navigate the process of applying for financial assistance to prevent eviction, and helps steer qualified individuals through the process of securing housing.

The program also has very limited temporary shelter funds for qualified people experiencing a gap in housing. Clients gain the confidence they need to maintain their housing because we understand where they are on their journey and meet them there, helping them to set realistic goals and directing them to the tools and resources that can help them along the way.

SCOTT AND CARVER COUNTY RESOURCES: Scott/Carver Family Homeless Prevention Assistance Program (FHPAP) provides supportive services and/or financial assistance to families, youth and singles that are homeless or at imminent risk of becoming homeless. All applicants must call 211 to be prescreened for our housing assistance.

To inquire about general housing resources in Dakota County, please contact the Housing Resource Line at 651-554-5751. These resources typically have no financial ties/assistance. There are very limited resources available for rental assistance as we move forward.

mn. us (search housing). Coordinated Entry is a regional system that refers families and individuals experiencing homelessness to available resources.

Dakota County is part of the Suburban Metro Area Continuum of CARE (SMAC) and households need to complete a Coordinated Entry Assessment to be placed on their resource priority list. The Dakota County Housing Resource Line cannot schedule or complete assessments.

Specific eligibility for the assessment can be found on SMAC’s website but generally requires circumstances that include living in a place not meant for human habitation or residing in an emergency shelter. If an individual believes that they meet these requirements, they should work with their Housing case manager to complete a Coordinated Entry assessment.

CAP Agency Housing Units: CAP Agency owns and manages limited housing for qualified individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Our housing is located in South St. Paul, Burnsville, and Savage.
