Emergency Response Small Grant - American Society of Primatologists Emergency Response Small Grant The American Society of Primatologists (ASP) Emergency Response (ER) Small Grant provides urgent financial assistance—up to $4,500—for primate populations (both wild and captive) and nearby communities who are experiencing emergencies that affect the welfare of primates, primate environments, and/or humans in direct or indirect contact with these primate populations.

This grant is designed to support researchers, conservationists, caretakers, and locals facing unexpected crises, such as natural disasters, political instability, or unforeseen threats to primate populations and nearby communities. Funds may be used for immediate field interventions, emergency medical care, habitat protection, rebuilding infrastructure, or other critical emergency-related needs.

There is no application deadline for this ER Small Grant. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis to ensure rapid support for those in need for as long as funds are available each year.

Applicants, research teams, and site locations that have previously received this grant will not be eligible to apply again for one year following dispersal of funds. What sort of things will the ER grant fund?

The ASP Emergency Response Small Grant will fund essential needs that have arisen as a result of a natural disaster, political instability (such as war or armed conflict), or other unforeseen threats to primate populations and nearby communities.

Essentials can include, but are not limited to, food, water, shelter, food storage, transportation, medical assistance, rebuilding infrastructure that was damaged, or other critical emergency-related needs. The goal of this grant is to provide immediate assistance to stabilize an emergency situation.

The ER Small Grant will not be used to fund research endeavors – ASP has several other research grant opportunities that can be found here . What do you mean by natural disasters? A natural disaster can include any environmental crisis that impacts a community or area.

These can include (but are not limited to) wildfires, hurricanes, typhoons, drought or chronic issues that have caused acute problems, such as long-term draught, floods, unprecedented heat waves, etc. What do you mean by political instability?

Political instability is characterized by uncertain or volatile political circumstances which can lead to any number of humanitarian crises; including, but not limited to war, armed conflict, rebel violence, civil unrest, famine, pandemics, crippling inflation of basic necessities, destruction of infrastructure, or displacement of populations/influx of refugees.

We totally understand if finding reliable internet is difficult during a crisis. How soon will I know if I’ve received a grant? The ASP Emergency Response Committee will make every effort to respond as soon as possible with the goal of giving an answer in less than 2 weeks; however, it may be longer depending on a variety of factors.
