The Emergency Services Grant Program, funded by Boulder County’s Emergency Services Sales and Use Tax, awards grants each spring and fall to support search and rescue, emergency medical services, and trail safety in rural and mountain areas. As of July 2026, more than $6. 5 million in grants have been distributed to help with fire response, search and rescue, trail safety, and other essential emergency services.
Grants can be applied toward: Equipment and capital purchases and upgrades Specialized training for emergency personnel Operational enhancements to improve response capabilities Infrastructure improvements to better support emergency services. Boulder County holds two grant cycles each year:* one for rural and mountain fire districts, and another for search and rescue organizations serving the county.
Spring – Search and Rescue and Trail/Recreation Safety Service Providers in Boulder County; Fall – Fire Protection Districts Serving Mountain and Rural Boulder County communities. *The schedule for grant rounds may change from year to year.
