Supports integrative research and tool development that advance the study of complex, multigenic traits in diverse species to better understand genomic function across biological contexts.
Supports integrative research and tool development that advance the study of complex, multigenic traits in diverse species to better understand genomic function across biological contexts. NSF supports research and tool development to understand how genomes function to produce phenotypes. The goal is to identify rules that control genome-to-phenome relationships and predict phenotypes.
Genome biology proposals should focus on advancing our understanding of the relationship between genomes and complex traits or on understanding genome function. Proposals should use system-level analysis that goes beyond linking individual genes with traits. Proposals that address generalizable questions, or that advance theory or analytical approaches will receive priority.
Projects focused on basic or translational hypotheses are welcome. Genomic resources proposals should develop functional genomics tools or infrastructure and provide proof-of-concept tests of the resource. In addition, these proposals should focus on species for which genomic tools are not available.
Priority will be given to proposals that have significant, catalytic impact on many researchers. There are additional opportunities in research infrastructure in the areas of bioinformatics, instrumentation, and research methods through the Infrastructure Innovation for Biological Research (Innovation) solicitation.
