The Environmental Justice Government-to-Government (EJG2G) Program provides funding for community-based organizations to engage in model activities that achieve measurable environmental impacts in communities who disproportionately bear the burden of pollution. EPA will be giving special consideration to projects in rural areas and projects addressing climate change, disaster resiliency, and/or emergency preparedness.
Activities that benefit disadvantaged communities to confront and overcome persistent climate pollution challenges, including: Community-led air and other pollution monitoring, prevention, and remediation, investments in low- and zero-emission and resilient technologies, and related infrastructure and workforce development that help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other air pollutants Mitigating climate and health risks from urban heat islands, extreme heat, wood heater emissions, and wildfire events Climate resiliency and adaptation, including nature-based solutions Reducing indoor toxics and indoor air pollution Facilitating engagement of disadvantaged communities in state and federal public processes, including facilitating such engagement in advisory groups, workshops, and rulemakings A partnership between (the partnership must be documented with a signed Letter of Commitment): A state government and a community-based nonprofit organization A local government and a community-based nonprofit organization Tribal governments and a community-based nonprofit organization Freely Associated States (FAS) – includes state and local governmental entities in the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and Palau Tribal governments in remote areas Approx Annual Funding Amount The IRA funded the EJG2G program at $70 million, with set-asides that each have their own ranking criteria: State Governments ($20 million) Federally recognized Tribes ($20 million) Local Governments ($20 million) U.S. Territory, Freely Associated State, and Remote Tribal Government ($10 million) There is no cost share required.
