The CDT unites leading researchers from The University of Manchester, Glasgow and Oxford, to train in both research and commercialisation of Robotics and AI to help revolutionise lifecycle asset management of critical infrastructure, in support of the UK’s Net Zero Strategy.
TechExpert funding for September 2026 entry As part of the TechFirst skills programme , successful home applicants to the September 2026 cohort of RAINZ CDT will receive a £10,000 top-up to the UK Research and Innovation minimum stipend. This increased funding applies to all of our available projects. Our programme prepares you to lead in robotics and AI for net zero.
Explore PhD projects you can research as part of the RAINZ CDT. Collaboration with industry Companies across the Net Zero and Robotics sectors support the RAINZ CDT, providing vital input to help steer the training and research programmes. The RAINZ CDT will train the next generation of robotic systems engineers, who will develop creative and innovative multi-disciplinary skills, enhancing their inter-sectoral mobility.
This will be achieved by having a highly integrated, impact-driven, industry co-created training and research programme, with strongly linked interdependencies between the individual research projects .
