Erasmus+ Grant (via Erasmus University Rotterdam) is sponsored by European Union (administered by Erasmus University Rotterdam for its students). The Erasmus+ grant is for higher education students who want to spend time studying or doing an internship abroad.

Erasmus+ Grant | Erasmus University Rotterdam Erasmus+ is the European programme for education, training, youth and sports. The programme runs from 2021 till 2027. This programme gives students the opportunity to go abroad for study exchange or an internship (see Erasmus Charter & Policy Statement ).

Find the Grant requirements for a Study Exchange and an Internship Exchange below You must be registered as a full-time student at Erasmus University Rotterdam You are not going to pay tuition at the host institution You must be nominated by your faculty You must be selected for study exchange at a partner university in one of the participating countries The participating countries are: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey You will live in the country of the partner university, but this is currently not your country of residence.

You have to study abroad fulltime. The amount of EC’s in your application needs to be proportionate to a fulltime study (60 EC for a full year study). For one semester abroad we expect 30 EC, or the minimum required by your faculty for an exchange period.

You have a min. stay abroad of 2 months and max. 12 months per degree programme (Bachelor, Master or PhD).

Please note: in 2026-2027, Erasmus+ funding is available for a maximum of 6 months. Erasmus University Rotterdam can provide an Erasmus+ grant for studies once per academic year. If you are an international student, you cannot get the grant if you are going on exchange to your home country or country of origin.

Your internship has to be part of your study programme EU institutions and other EU-bodies are excluded, see the list on the European Union If you are an international student, you cannot get the grant if you are going on exchange to your home country or country of origin Internship grants cannot be extended.

If you decide to extend your internship after you have already started, you cannot apply for an extension of the Erasmus+ grant If you receive a salary or allowance for your traineeship, which is equal to or more than € 1000,- per month, you can only apply for a zero-grant status.

We will make a calculation of the distance based on the EU Distance Calculator from Rotterdam to your city of destination.

We highly recommend all students to have financial back up and create a budget plan for studying abroad (see Budget Calculator ) Application - Erasmus+ Grant Students going on exchange in the first semester and are eligible for the Erasmus+ study grant are nominated by their faculty in June.

Students going on exchange in the second semester and are eligible for the Erasmus+ study grant are nominated by their faculty in November/December. Students can contact their internship coordinator (or the exchange coordinator if your faculty does not have an internship coordinator) to be nominated for the grant. Please do this 30 days before the start of your internship.

Students can be nominated for internships throughout the year. Confirmation and application: Once you've been selected by your faculty you will receive an email through Osiris confirming your nomination with further instructions. You can apply and we will check whether you meet all the requirements.

Pay close attention to your student email during this period. Your grant will be determined based on the exact dates of your exchange. You will receive 75% prior to your exchange and 25% after your return, once you have handed in all the required documentation.

Also keep a close eye on your student email after you return, and make sure that the required documents are submitted on time. - You can only receive the Erasmus+ grant for the period that you are studying/on internship in the host country. - You can only apply for the Erasmus+ grant if the travel advise for the host country or area is green or yellow.

Please check the travel advise . 3 weeks after the start of your exchange Additional financial support There are additional financial supports options that you can apply for on top of your grant, with their own requirements and documents. If you use an environmentally friendly, sustainable means of transport for your journey to and from your host country, such as train or bus, you may be eligible for a “Green travel top-up”.

If you travel sustainably, you can receive a travel allowance that is higher than the standard travel allowance. Sustainable means of transport include, among others, train and bus; an electric car is not considered sustainable unless you choose to carpool. Indicate in your application that you plan to use a sustainable mode of travel.

If your institution/organisation is located within 500 km of Rotterdam, we expect you to travel in a sustainable way. After your exchange you may be asked to provide proof of your travels, such as a train ticket. Exclusive Interrail Global Pass for Erasmus+ participants.

Eurail and ESN have launched an Interrail Global Pass for Erasmus+ participants . These passes can be used to travel to and from the host destination and can be used over a period of 6 months. They are only available for students with an Erasmus+ grant and costs either 212 euro (4 days travel) or 301 euro (6 days travel) .

The Erasmus+ grant contains a travel allowance which could cover (part of) this price. Depending on the distance travelled students can get 285, 417 or 535 euro as Erasmus+ green travel compensation . If you receive a supplementary grant from DUO and/or have a diagnosed medical condition that influences and complicates travel and studying abroad, you may be entitled to an 'Inclusion' top-up payment of up to € 250 per month.

Disability and/or special needs support If you have a disability and/or impairment and are eligible for an Erasmus+ grant for studies or traineeships, EUR can apply on your behalf for additional financial support from the Erasmus+ programme (“Inclusion Support”). The application deadline is 3 months before the start date of your exchange.

You must have demonstrable additional costs resulting from your special needs (such as purchasing specific equipment, paying for a caregiver, or using a special taxi service) that are not covered by your health or travel insurance. These additional costs cannot be covered by the “Inclusion top-up” extra payment.

Also have a look at the website: https://inclusivemobility. eu/ (Pilot) International Mobility Grant for destinations outside of the EU/EEA During the academic year 2025-2026 the Erasmus University Rotterdam starts a pilot for the International Mobility grant.

This grant offers the opportunity to fund students going outside of the EU/EEA with an Erasmus+ grant. Since this is a pilot, not all options as presented under the Erasmus+ Programme are available, and the grant is only offered for a limited number of partners institutions. The International Mobility grant is part of the Erasmus+ Programme.

This is a pilot from Erasmus University Rotterdam and therefore not all options from the International Mobility grant under the Erasmus+ programme are available. The scholarship is only available for students going on exchange in the first semester of academic year 2026-2027. During the pilot in 2026-2027 the maximum grant that can be received is for 2 months for destinations outside of Europe and 3 months for the UK.

If your exchange is longer, then your grant will still be for 2 (beyond Europe) or 3 (UK) months. In case your exchange is shorter, the grant duration is based on the total amount of physical study period at the partner university. You cannot receive this grant if you already receive the NL Scholarship Grant or a grant from the host university.

During the pilot in 2026-2027 the maximum grant that can be received is for 2 months for destinations beyond Europe, and 3 months for the UK.
