Eat the Change™ | Impact Grant Program Created as the philanthropic complement to Just Ice Tea — a line of organic, fair trade bottled teas — ETC Impact™ is a grant program working to promote and expand access to climate-friendly foods in the United States. We've donated more than $1. 5 million over the past four years to support a diverse group of changemaking nonprofit organizations.

Announcement of 2023 ETC Impact Changemakers Charles Koiner Conservancy ETC Impact™ is a grant program working to promote and expand access to climate-friendly foods in the United States. We're donating more than $1. 25 million over three years to support a diverse group of changemaking nonprofit organizations.

Eat the Change Impact will only be accepting applications from current grantees from the greater Washington, DC region who have submitted their final reports. Renewal application posted for current grantee partners in the DMV Renewal application deadline We will be awarding annual grants (no multi-year grants) to local non -profit organizations in the greater Washington, DC region.

We expect to award 8-10 grants to individuals and organizations focused on education and inspiring communities to eat more planet-friendly foods Individuals may apply for a grant with fiscal sponsorship from a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, as long as the work serves a charitable purpose.

High school, college, and graduate students are also eligible to apply with fiscal sponsorship from their school or community organization and the support of a faculty member.

Core Values of the Eat the Change Impact Grant Program Grants will be awarded based on the applicant’s ability and potential to uphold and promote these core values: Support efforts to help people learn more about where their food comes from; how it’s grown, processed, packaged and distributed; and its environmental impact. Promote the analysis, understanding and education about the link between our diets and climate change, with a focus mainly on: reduced food waste, plant-based diets, organic agriculture, supporting biodiversity, water efficiency, sustainable packaging Expand access and demand for planet-friendly diets in historically underserved communities, through improved distribution, pricing, and community engagement.

Support creative and emerging approaches that help lead to new and effective ways of thinking and eating. Is this an annual grant program? Yes, this is an annual grant program founded in 2020.

No multi-year grants are awarded. What kinds of organizations and projects are you looking to support? We aim to support community-based initiatives in the Greater Washington, DC region that promote climate-friendly eating, with a particular focus on those that serve and represent historically marginalized communities.

We are particularly interested in programs that emphasize the climate and health benefits of planet-friendly diets and utilize optimistic and solutions-oriented messaging. Please refer to last year’s Changemakers as an example, but don’t be afraid to propose new or creative ideas for promoting climate-friendly eating, including public art or other unique forms of community engagement. What constitutes “climate-friendly eating”?

Eat the Change focuses on sustainability across several dimensions, with a particular emphasis on plant-based diets, food waste reduction, organic agriculture, the promotion of biodiversity, and innovation in sustainable packaging. What kinds of organizations are eligible to apply? Organizations must be registered 501(c)3 nonprofits or utilize a 501(c)3 as a fiscal sponsor.

Individuals may apply for a grant with fiscal sponsorship from a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, as long as the work serves a charitable purpose. See, for example, our 2020 Changemaker grant supporting Tracye McQuirter’s 10,000 Black Vegan Women Movement through the fiscal sponsorship of A Well-Fed World.

Are international organizations eligible to apply? Due to restrictions of our fund, we are only able to grant to international organizations with a “charitable equivalency” designation or fiscal sponsorship from a U.S.-based 501(c)3 organization.

Can an organization submit multiple applications? Only one application will be accepted per organization, unless the organization is serving as a fiscal sponsor for a separate initiative or individual. Can funds be used to support staffing?

Yes, as long as the primary purpose of the grant is the promotion of climate-friendly diets. What is the reporting process? A brief final report is due in March of the following year, providing an outline of progress made to date, challenges, and lessons learned.

What legal structure does this philanthropy take? The funds are issued from an account that Seth Goldman and Julie Farkas have set up at Impact Assets, a donor-advised fund. Where does the money come from?

Before Seth and Julie sold their Honest Tea equity to The Coca-Cola Company, they allocated a significant portion of their holdings to Impact Assets , a donor-advised fund. The ETC Impact grants come from that fund. eat the change you wish to see in the world.
