Education. November 12, 2026 • Irvine, CA The Etheridge Foundation advances transformative new treatments for opioid use disorder (OUD) through four pillars: research, models of care, advocacy, and biocultural conservation of plant medicines. We help to fund studies on plant medicine and psychedelic therapies for OUD that use an integrated understanding of factors such as mental health issues, trauma, and chronic pain.

We’re working to increase the kinds of treatment resources available for people with OUD so that they can access the support they need for true healing. While we strive for progress in our medical systems, we also support Indigenous-led biocultural conservation of plant medicines in their communities of stewardship.

Traditional knowledge of plant medicines is integral the field of psychedelic medicine, and must be respected and protected. Our ultimate goal is safe, legal, ethical, and equitable access to effective new treatments for all who could benefit. Etheridge Foundation Awards $45,000 Grant to University of Pennsylvania for Psilocybin Research We’re proud to award a $45,000 grant to the University of Pennsylvania supporting research into psilocybin-assisted therapy for opioid use disorder (OUD). Led by Drs.

Anna Rose Childress, Kyle Kampman, and Paul Regier, the pilot study is exploring how psilocybin may support cognitive and emotional flexibility and help create new pathways toward meaningful, sustained recovery.

Etheridge Foundation Awards Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine Research Grant We’re proud to support the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine with a $43,500 grant to advance research exploring the potential of psilocybin-assisted approaches for opioid use disorder. This work will help expand our understanding of how emerging psychedelic-assisted approaches can contribute to improved recovery outcomes.

Idryma Receives Etheridge Foundation Grant We’re proud to support Idryma with an Etheridge Foundation grant focused on practitioner training to strengthen safety, ethics, and efficacy in the ibogaine treatment field. As this work continues to grow, building strong foundations for treatment is essential to ensuring care is delivered responsibly and effectively.

Survivorship Collective Receives Etheridge Foundation Grant The Etheridge Foundation is proud to support new work exploring survivorship care and opioid risk among cancer survivors. Our latest grant supports the Survivorship Collective and their Project RISE initiative, which helps survivors process the lasting impacts of treatment and explore pathways toward healing and resilience.

This naturally occurring molecule 5-MeO-DMT has come into the spotlight in recent years for its profound psychedelic effects and healing potential.

Researchers are examining 5-MeO-DMT as a key therapeutic in treating mental health conditions , emotional trauma, and substance use disorders. Long associated with dance parties and raves starting in the 1990s, MDMA is also known for an increase in social behaviors such as energy, empathy, and pleasure. In recent years, however, this medicine become key to new research on various mental health issues, including substance use disorders.

Typically, if someone says they are “in recovery”, they are probably referring to healing from an addiction such as substance use disorder. But what exactly is recovery, and why is it important that we discuss this topic in detail when also talking about plant-based medicine? Peyote is a small, spineless cactus that is native to Mexico and the southwestern regions of the United States, particularly Texas.

Known scientifically as Lophophora williamsii , Peyote has a long history of ceremonial and spiritual use among various Indigenous cultures in these regions. Three of Melissa's never-before released tracks are now available for download with a donation to the Etheridge Foundation! Melissa performed some of her classics as well as fan submitted songs in the 2 hour fundraiser concert for The Etheridge Foundation in October 2020.
