EV Grant Programs

EV Grant Programs is a resource from Boston Taxi Network that helps Boston taxi drivers access rebates and grants for purchasing used electric vehicles. Taxi drivers can combine up to $2,500 from the Ride Clean Mass program with up to $3,500 from the Massachusetts MOR-EV rebate for a total of $6,000 in savings on qualifying used electric cars. Drivers must be listed on the vehicle's purchase or lease agreement to qualify.

The program aims to support the transition of Boston's taxi fleet to electric vehicles while reducing operating costs for drivers.

## Save on a Used EV for Your Next Taxi ### Consider saving on a used electric car for your next taxi. Right now, 55% of used electric vehicle (EV) inventory is priced under $30,000. Taxi drivers can access $2,500 from Ride Clean Mass and $3,500 from theMassachusetts MOR-EV rebate program on a qualifying used electric car if they are listed on the car’s purchase or lease agreement, for a total of $6,000 in savings.

### The used EV market is thriving right now. A lot of EVs are coming off summer lease cycles, meaning there are many options to choose from. Used EV listings are relatively new, and most listed vehicles are five years old or newer.

As of July, 72% of listings are at most five years old and 34% of inventory are at most two years old. ### Your EV will last a long time. When you buy a used EV, you can access that EV’s battery warranty of eight years or 100,000 miles.

So, if you purchased a used EV that is three years old, your EV battery should remain in warranty for five years or until it has reached 100,000 miles. EV batteries rarely need to be replaced. In fact, most EV batteries last 15 to 20 years and will likely outlive the ten-year taxi lifespan.

### Ride Clean Mass Savings Taxi drivers can save $6,500 on a new EV and $2,500 on a used EV through the Ride Clean Mass program. You can apply for your rebate online here. See below for application requirements: ### Massachusetts MOR-EV Program Taxi drivers who own their vehicle and are listed on the car’s purchase or lease agreement can save an additional $3,500 through the MOR-EV Program.

Income-qualifying drivers who are listed on the purchase or lease agreement and participate in a qualifying income program (SNAP, LIHEAP, Mass Health, etc.) can receive an additional $1,500 from MOR-EV+. Eligible low-income taxi drivers can save $5,000 in total through this program. Apply for MOR-EV Used and MOR-EV+ (if you qualify) online here.

### Finding the right used EV for you Kelly Blue Book is a great resource for finding a used EV listing near you. Filter by lowest mileage, cost, or distance to a dealership near you. Some examples are pictured below.

### Save on installing a charger at your home. If you bring your taxi home with you and are an Eversource or National Grid customer, there are incentives to help you save on purchasing the charger and/or installing it at your home. Every customer can access these utility incentives, but customers who live in an environmental justice community or are on the low-income electricity rate can save more.

### How to check if you live in an environmental justice community (EJC) Many Greater Boston areas are defined as EJCs by the state of Massachusetts. An area is defined as an EJC if it meets certain income, minority population demographics, and language requirements. You can see if your home is in an EJC if it is color coded on this map.

### Eversource and National Grid incentives for installing a charger at home Homeowners can receive the incentives below. If you rent, your landlord would access the incentives below and install the chargers to benefit their tenants. Landlords can access an incentive for homes with more than five units, as well.

PlugShare is a great tool for locating nearby public charging stations.
